It's a very interesting topic to write about, but also a pretty hard one because there will always be someone ready to trip you up or make you eat your words, on either side. It's a vicious debate...
In fact I cut out MY rambling. and left the head shaking story
(Jesus and Buddha, by the way? Same guy, different regional trappings. Read Living Buddha, Living Christ by Thich Nhat Hanh if you're interested in such things beyond putting up with my rambling.)
After I got back from Japan the first time, I had a friend who lectured me once about how stupid it was to consider Buhdism and Christianity similar in any way. His basis was that Buhdism discouraged killing. I wasn't even sure where to start my rebuttle so I just got up to get a glass of water and let it go.
I thought I should let you know I read & enjoyed it all. I quite simply there is something, whether it God or Fate or they being the same thing, that is governing us, and I'm quite satisfied at leaving it as a mystery. For now.
I might've completely missed them in all of that... but what are your views?
Okay. There is a story--Jewish, I believe, but I wouldn't go quoting me on that. When the Gates of Eden were shattered, the pieces fell to earth. Through the ages, the tribes of man have each found a piece--and on each piece is inscribed a small part of the truth. Each piece is beautiful and valid in its own right--and only by communication and understanding can any human see the whole truth.
That's basically it. Each religion contains a grain of truth wrapped up in misunderstanding and regional trapping. To seek it--or not--is entirely the decision of each human being, and everything is fine and rosey if you live your life respectfully and compassionately.

Granted, the Old Testament in particular encourages destroying thy enemies and all that, but the actual CHRIST part? Agh.
(Of course, I've noticed it's generally the noisiest Christians who know the least about Christianity.)
