I was halfway through this post and I was thinking, "but Mariko is the one they'll want later on!" Not to mention she's also very pretty. I'd say just give her whatever support you can and let her keep wearing little black dresses. :)

If it's any consolation, I never had a bit of trouble finding guys to date in junior high and high school. But, my mom also referred to my friends as "the all male review" because I didn't really have close female friends until late high school/early college.

This is at first going to sound harsh... bear with me. I sincerely hope that she gets attention no different than usual with the strapless dress. Why? Because it might just be enough to make her want to become a fashionista and I think she's pretty damned cool the way she is. The problem is that guys her own age won't appreciate her.

I didn't date guys my own age...they were mostly 1-4 years older. Guys my age and younger were not interested or were more trouble than they were worth. There's a guy out there whose parents still blame me for his threatening suicide and even *I* knew at 16 that if he was suicidal, he had much bigger problems than unrequited love.

My, I did get off on a tangent didn't I?

Yes, *boys* are stupid. Mariko will come into her own, and she will grow up to be one hell of a woman. She will find her security within herself, and you being a loving, caring father will go a long way towards that realization later on. Not to fret. All will be fine, and she will hopefully get the kind of attention she deserves. Soon enough, she, as well as the *boys* will realize that it's not only what's on the outside, but what's on the inside that really matters.....the complete and total package. Just give it a little time. And keep smiling.
