Hah, a nest full of vipers, that's the best way to describe it. Save for 2 of my friends and a couple of Japanese girls...it's so horrible.
I am a bit disappointed, to tell the truth. Studying abroad, I thought that I would meet other people with a passion for being forced out of their comfort zone and into something new, people willing to have a new outlook on things and suspend their own way of thinking for a moment. While there are a couple like that here, more than not people are just as egocentric as ever. Some to the point of being scary.
And apparently most people don't like the American's "be direct to deal with it" attitude, but it seems like the only alternative to that is for them to be passive aggressive.

Sounds like you live in a nest of vipers. How do people get away with that? I am sorry, rude is universal.
Can't wait to see you!
