Aw, so you didn't get to go? That must be really frustrating. I can see your mum's POV though - my parents are hugely liberal, but I'm still not sure they'd have been too keen on the idea of me taking a route so full of potential problems at that age. Well, maybe the transport is better over there, but here with the buses and things you'd be lucky to make all the connections, what with delays and cancellations and whatnot. Still, it is a shame when such things get in the way of doing things which you really want to do. I know that feeling well. It doesn't go away when you get older ... although the source of the obstacles may change. There's always a next time though, and the dissapointment's worth it to have parents that care :)
Oh, it's SF by the way. And I look forward to reading your philosophical crap ^.^
Like I said, I take the 9 and the 10 four times a week, and have been doing so for the last two semesters. The only added connection is onto the Gold Line, but I'm not so much making a connection as I am waiting for the next train(up to fifteen minutes max). Then there is waiting for the car, but that's not much trouble with Mapquest and cellphones.
Meh. Not much point in whining about the past.
Actually, the public transportation in LA is just about the worse in the country. But the Big Blue Bus system is Santa Monica, and it's pretty darn good. It's rarely late, and never early - plus the whole fleet runs on natural gas, which reduces emissions(Santa Monica is eco-concious to the point of being whacked. I love them for it).
well dang! I think I'd probably feel the same way if I couldn't go to the rennaissance festival! That is, possibly, my most favorite place to go in the entire world! I love it! Going, and wearing costumes, and getting to act the part of a girl during the rennaissance... it's awesome... can't wait until the one near me opens! I'm going to try to go every single weekend, if I can manage it. Now that would be awesome.
Wish you could have gone! I don't know what your faire is like, but I know the one I go to is awesome, so I can imagine the feeling of not being able to go. And it sucks.
Personally I see little point in your mum`s worries. I`m in Japan with buses in Kanji and no idea what any of it means, and my host mother (until tomorrow host mother, that is) is also paranoid about me taking public transportation on my own, but really it`s quite simple. I took the bus once, one way, with my host sister, and from that point on I have been fine either way or going to different stops on my own. I don`t know what the kanji mean, and my Japanese is minimal enough that asking directions is difficult, but I have no doubt that if I wanted to go to the Yurix Center or the Global Arena or the other direction from the station that I could figure it out. Nil, you`re speaking in English (which I would pronounce you fluent in, even if your grammar and vocabulary are not perfect to the degree they could be) to other fluent English speakers, so I see no point in being worried. Even if you did screw up it`s easy enough to fix such mistakes. I got on the wrong train the other day (one that wouldn`t go to my school), and so had
