I have teachers like this too...ones that other kids didn't like but I did even though they were HARD. They taught me a lot! I had a world civ (I can't remember but it was social studies...govt stuff) or whatever you want to call it teacher who I loved. The kids hated him. He never used the book...he just lectured. But I would always get in "spirited discussions" with other students in this class. (Me getting fired up talking about the government? Really?! Anyway he would just stop the discussion and say "Ok. Debate tomorrow. You on this side. You on this other side."
I had an algebra 2 teacher that was pretty hard. She wasn't very cuddly with the students but man she was a good teacher. I learned that she passed away from cancer in the last couple of years. I was really sad to hear that. She was just a great teacher. And I totally respected her. She taught me word problems. Every time I have to figure out a calculation where I need to write a little formula I think of her. "'of' means multiply."
