Last night, Emily finished her report on "The Good Earth". I really don't like the book. I just don't. I find it ineffably depressing.

But it never, ever occurred to me to question that she has spent the last month studying this book - even though it deals with some pretty sexual topics.

Doesn't "The Good Earth" also deal with infanticide and opium use, among other thrilling topics?

Anyway, what?!?! I have never understood why books are constantly being "banned" in this country. I can understand limiting some things for older readers. But the dictionary?! I'm insulted.

Something tells me they don't have "Places I Never Meant to Be" in their school libraries...

Yeah, they should TOTALLY ban stuff! It's much easier than, you know, discussing sensitive issues with kids or anything like that.

"It's just not age appropriate," said Cadmus, adding that this is the first time a book has been removed from classrooms throughout the district.

I had to check three times to make sure this wasn't from The Onion.

Sadly I've met individuals like this. What frightening is that there are communities with enough of them to influence policy.

Well, that's just stupid. Aside from the obvious they're depriving kids of the innocent fun that is looking up naughty words in the dictionary.

They'll be pulling Judy Blume's Forever off the shelves next!
