Wow. This is amazing. Never before in my life have GB been third in the medals table. Perhaps there is hope for the London games after all. Now if only we could learn to run, jump or throw ...

gobsmacked

I am confused by the flags. One is England with the cross then the other that I am used to for GB. What is the difference in the two?

I asked someone else and just got a smart alecky answer (Bridge Player)

Well, you wouldn't expect anything simple from us now would you? There are 4 nations in the United Kingdom (or Great Britain as we seem to prefer at the Olympics). The GB flag is called the Union Flag (or Union Jack if it is on a boat). It is the complicated red, white and blue one, and is the one that we fly when we win a medal (You will also see it in the top left corner of the Australian and New Zealand flags). It is easy to fly upside down, but the Chinese have not got it wrong ... yet ( ... )

The one I have seen is a light blue with a white cross (kind of like Sweden's flag)

It says England.

The Union Flag is the one I am used to. Thanks for all the information.

No, that is a new one on me. After a quick look at Wikipedia there is a semi-official flag for the Shetland Isles (far north of Scotland) which fits. Shetland Islanders have more to do with Norway than Scotland, so I suppose they might put England on it (the name usually relates to which football team they support).

Its a mystery!
