Typhoons? Earthquakes?

Jul 17, 2007 12:34

Japan is falling apart! Last week we had several small earthquakes, and then this weekend we had Typhoon Man-Yi. Now, apparently....typhoons are the same as hurricanes...just the wind spins in a different direction cause they're in diff. hemispheres? But in any case, you might remember me whining earlier about whether or not I was gonna go to the ( Read more... )

I didn't feel the earthquake either, but the typhoon ruined my Izu vacation plans. We ended up driving in the horrible rain on Saturday, having fun in the rain in Izu for a while, and then the hostel we stayed at told us we (in so many words) had to be out by 6am the next day because of the typhoon. We left, and drove home again in horrible rain, and then by about 11am things cleared up. We were so pissed. We still are, really. But we did end up going to the beach anyway, so all was not lost!

What are your summer vacation plans like? In August I think that Glen and I may be heading down in your area for a roadtrip...

Oooh, by "my area" do you mean kansai? or shikoku?? You know our big festival, Awa Odori? It's from the night of Sunday the 12th through the night of Wednesday the 15th. I'll be dancing in it on the Tuesday night, with a group for foreigners called Arasowaren. Tristan and our friend Lara from Wakayama are staying with me for the festival, and so are my sister and brother (An-e and Oscar)!! It's a really good time, if you and Glen are around during that time at all. So yeah, then for the rest of that week i'm just gonna take nenkyuu and go with tristan (and maybe an-e and oscar) to some islands in the inland sea (naoshima and shodoshima...one has a lot of art and one grows olives and is faux-grecian?). Then it's back to the grindstone (i.e. loafing around school) for the rest of August.

but yeah, send me an email and let me know your dates...if you were passing through kansai sometime later in august, i could go up and meet you somewhere. It'd be so good to see you again! And good to meet Glen!

ack! I'm glad you didn't get eaten by the typhoon, that would really ruin my week. Sounds like your Japanese adventure is throwing a little excitement your way. I'm jealous, the last 10 days of my Randalian adventure are throwing nothing but 100 pages of writing my way so that I can finish these damn correspondence classes and get on with teaching school. But soon enough it will be Olympia! I'm all moved into my new house, except the part of me that's actually me, that part's still here.
