How about a random food and cooking meme? Found here.

1. Metal or non-stick? Metal! Definitely. It lasts so much better than non-stick does. Besides, I hate the idea of non-stick material chipping off of the pan and into my food while cooking.

2. Cast iron or stainless? Oh, that’s a tricky one. I use stainless steel because that’s all I have at the moment, but I really want a set of cast iron pans. I imagine that cast iron would become my favorite if I actually had any.

3. Cutting board: silicon or wood? Wood! I definitely prefer wood. However, if I’m cutting raw meat, I usually try to use our giant silicon (or whatever kind of plastic it is) board.

4. Knife: carbon steel or stainless? Um…wow. I have no idea here. I think we only have stainless steel knives. And I have no idea of the merits of carbon steel knives. This may be something else for me to explore in the world of cooking.

5. Kitchen Aide or hand mixer? Neither. I almost always use a spoon or egg beater. If it requires a hand mixer (for example, whipped cream), I usually put Kevin in charge. Maybe someday I will get over my bizarre and unnatural prejudice against mechanical kitchen appliances. A good blender and a Kitchen Aide might just do that.

6. Cooktop: gas, electric, induction? I don’t really care, as long as I have some sort of stovetop to cook on. I do like gas stoves though, because the heat is more easily controlled. My mom had a nice electric stove when I was living at home. I LOVED the oven portion. It was wonderful. The stovetop made things difficult though. It was very east to burn things.

7. Side-by-side, freezer on top, fridge on top? Probably freezer on top, mostly because that’s what I’m most used to. I hate the side-by-side though. The freezers never have enough room.

8. Apron or whoops? Mostly I’m a whoops sort of person. I almost never wear clothes that I mind staining while I cook. On the rare occasion that I’m wearing something nice, I put on an apron.

9. Mashed potatoes: by hand, ricer, or mixer? By hand definitely. See reference to my unnatural prejudices above in question 5.

10. Sandwich or wrap? Oh, I can’t choose just one. Sometimes I only want wraps, and sometimes I want sandwiches and more sandwiches. I’ve been a sandwich person lately.

11. PB & _________ ? Peanut butter and banana on toast is quite lovely is I’m in the mood for it. And sometimes I want just peanut butter.

12. Pancakes: syrup or applesauce? Neither. Most of the time I like my pancakes with a tiny bit of butter only. If I’m wanting sweet, I will sometimes use maple syrup.

13. Cake: scratch or mix? I prefer to make everything from scratch, including cakes. However, chocolate cake is the bane of my existence. If it comes from the mix, I’m fine. If I make it from scratch it falls. Invariably it falls. Even my little chocolate cupcakes fell. Someday I will make a homemade chocolate cake that does not fall. At least I can dream, right?

14. Chili: beans or no? Beans, beans, and more beans. In fact, if you make chili without beans and expect me to eat, I will cry like a baby.

15. Napkin: cloth or paper? Cloth…it’s just the laundry part that annoys me.

16. BBQ: takes the whole weekend to make or take out? Um…well, we never get take out BBQ, but we don’t take the whole weekend to make it either. So, somewhere in between?

17. Chicken: white or dark? Dark…hands down. White meat just gets too dry. I can eat white on a sandwich though.

18. Ice cream: cone or dish? This is another one that depends on my mood. If I’m going out for ice cream I usually want a cone. If I’m at home, I just put it in a dish.
