No Excel, Access doesn't want to talk to you. Access is a selfish, unfriendly meanie head and it won't share data with you. In fact, it won't even take your data without chewing it up. Since those two refuse to get along despite being cousins from the same cheap family, let's just pick one and stick with it, shall we ( Read more... )

Never bothered with Access much. And I disliked database entry on excel (mostly because I find it repetitive, tedious and boring) so...yeah >.<

It'll only be a matter of time before you steal sensei's job =P

I hate data entry, I only like making data bases and someone else can do the data entry from there on. I'm actually making sensei's data base so she can easily enter data monthly. I also got another database assignment but this one is more complicated though ironically Dog (the one who gave me the new assignment, his name is actually Douglas we just call him Dog) anyway he claims he doesn't know much about Access so he needs help, but I saw some of his javascript coding and it's great. I could learn a lot of he became my sensei too but I don't think he has time to train the n00bs so I'll just try to figure out the SQL on my own and maybe I'll eventually be moved to work with scripts with Dog or Maddy (they have the best jobs and are really good at scripting) and then I'll learn by practice and I'll have a great portfolio to get a new job when I leave that place. (oh they irony, and they're happy because they think they're training me to stay, yeah right).

Setting Databases up seemed more or less easy enough ^^; I only did a couple of really REALLY simple, unprofessional-ish ones before ^^; I've had no training what so ever. They just threw me in front of a computer with excel and told me to make a database....so I did XP

Yay Irony! *hopes you do something epic when you quit...for the lulz*

I use excel to organize most of my work and life. Hell, my To Do list with color warnings according to the proximity of due date is on excel.

But I have found that when I want to compare a big volume of data, access is best. I just don't get why the file has to be so big! Otherwise I might even use it for personal categorizations.

Just now, I needed to exclude about 500 registers from a 50 thousand register long list. I imported it into access and made a simple SELECT query. Much better than doing it by hand!
