This is the mix I used for my little rose iced cakes....

I always find I need to add water as she suggests - if you have rose water, add some of that for a delicate flavour instead.
Rather than make a big sponge, I spoon the mixture into little paper cases, and bake for about 10-12 minutes (we have a fan oven, they tend to cook very quickly) and stick a sharp knife or skewer into one. If it comes out clean, fine, if not, I give them a few more minutes.
The rose icing is dead easy. Just mix up icing sugar with rose syrup to a thick paste consistency, and smooth it on them. Or....beat up some soft butter, add some rose syrup and some icing sugar to make buttercream. Don't ice them with this though until they're absolutely cool.
Oh, and you made a wonderful, beautiful and smart little girl! I'd say that counts for a lot!

And I did indeed make a wonderful, beautiful, smart (thank you!), bossy, stroppy, quite odd, cheeky, noisy and messy girl but sadly that wasn't in the last year or she'd have made the list :-)
