Didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night due to various hospital folks dropping in every couple of hours to take my vitals, or blood, or both. And for a few days at least progress on the hip surgery will be taking a back seat to status on the liver surgery. It went very smoothly and quickly to remove the hepatic adenoma. Sadly, did lose my gallbladder as the adnenoma had grown into it and they couldn't be separated :( Had been prepared for a 7 hr procedure but it only took 3.5 hrs. ( Read more... )

I would say that I slept in today, but honestly, every day lately is a "sleeping in" kinda day. Mom had church so I got a couple alone hours for crafting which was lovely. Later went to acupuncture and then had a late brunch/early Vietnamese supper out. Came home for some more crafting, laundry, and general being-at-home-time. Good thing I'm ( Read more... )

progress at PT is going very well. The CPM machine is gone, sofa is reclaimed (the machine took up half the full sized sofa, I can now sprawl comfortably AND have room for another person to sit), and cats are very pleased to have the slow moving, slightly hissy obstacle gone. Yesterday I had PT (appt for me and for mom who has all kinds of problems due to age, arthritis, and having skied off a cliff and broken her back several decades ago) followed by acupuncture for both of us. No PT or other appointments today so it was a no-schedule at home kinda day. Took 1/2 dilaudid and a tylenol last night before bed, no painkiller since and only discomfort was during and after shower. Showers are still challenging, mostly because of bandage-changing and how I always feel compelled to take good investigative look at the incision ( Read more... )

After a night of almost 11 hrs of uninterrupted, blissful sleep (locked the cats out of my bedroom and barricaded the door against their inevitable intrusions) was feeling quite good yesterday. Took 1/2 a dilaudid and an otc tylenol before bed and that was clearly all I needed. No other pain meds until after 7pm when I caved and took a tylenol. I' ( Read more... )

Thinking a lot about pain recently for obvious reasons. Particularly at 3am when I was lying in bed, awake, considering whether to take a dilaudid. Because I didn't take one before bed. I caved and took half a norco around 7pm after a very active day. The pain wasn't terrible by any means, just niggly and annoying and I knew i would sleep ( Read more... )

Don't think so, but I am very optimistic about this recovery. After talking to the liver surgeon this morning went to PT this afternoon and got my leg moved around all over the place. Also did my first weight bearing lunges with operative leg on a scale to make sure I never went beyond 50% (about 74 lbs.) Then did quad extensions and hamstring ( Read more... )
