Aquatica-Aviana

Over the weekend, I went on a trip. So I had plenty of time to think over the cool ideas that nillion inspired, and, guess what? I came up with this:

The greenhouse effect has turned the globe into a waterworld. The atmosphere no longer holds air fit to breathe. Yet the scientists of the last generation had devised a plan to save mankind! But the ( Read more... )

lol, yeah, i do. I seriously spent so much time pouring over the nearly indecipherable anatomy course (which I gave up) last fall--it dealt with cellular structure in the first chapter--that it made me forget which went where! But not that its possible to reorganize molecules if you have the proper tools... (at least, in theory, right?)

i mean, i didn't FORGET that it's possilbe to reorganize molecules... >__

Nuh-nuh! You have to ionise the molecules, so that you can change their properies without breaking them appart and releasing the potencial energy!

*tries to figure out how many ways this doesn't work*

Yay science fiction. I like where you took my idea, by the way. More later when my mother isn't chasing me off the comptuer. Grr...

Oh good, I'm glad you like it! I knew there was something else I was supposed to do to those molecules--IONIZE them! ^__^

Yes, then we will have a plasma of molecules - very useful, I bet. Totally works. :P

A question, though. In my original rendering, the flying islands flew to be above the pollution. In yours, they project a forcefield what keeps the pollution out. Why, then, should they fly? Why not just float on the world-ocean? Or why not be under the ocean?

I can think of reasons, some of which would be quite interesting as facets of the setting (i.e. more than just "this is why it makes sense"), and I'll tell you them if you want, but I want to know your reasonings and such.

Mainly because this form is most versatile: it can go on a gas giant, if I suddenly change my mind and decide the world is one, and also it can go beneath the sea--which accounts for the "Aquatic-Aviana" title of the post. I havent touched on that part of the world setting yet, mainly because its not as clear in my mind as the avian form of the Wings are. Also, in my mind, and with specific modifications, the Wings can, theoretically, traverse through space. It would, of course, be nice for them to already be airborne when they decide to leave the atmosphere--although none of the Domes (the residents) have had the guts to try it... but I won't go into the and/if/or factors... its just one more idea which I'm not focusing on because I want to develop the currant one ( ... )

Ooh! Ooh!

Not wings, but clams! Big clams floating in the air filtering though the atmosphere for nutrients, all of which support the civilization inside.

hmm... an interesting idea for the underseas environment. Definitely going into my stack of ideas for consideration. (Stack now consists of: 1)

Answer #1: mainly carbon dioxide. Differs by lack of oxygen and the greenhouse effect.

Answer #2: Due to industrial pollution and other things that caused the ozone to deteriote, carbon dioxide to build up, an generally caused the greenhouse effect which melted the polar caps and flooded the world (or, most of it.)

Answer #3: Um... beause I hadn't thought of chemical reactions?

Answer #4: Er... breaking them apart wasn't the source of energy (I don't think), but the heat generated from using the atoms/molecules that make up metals and smelting these created heat and also "burning" these molecules created explosive power. Did I forget to mention that the Wings use solar power, as well?

erm... you know, there's this really bad problem I have of coming up with good ideas and then finding out that I didn't think them through thoroughly enough, or don't have alot of scientific knowledge about my subject... Like, I imagined that the atmosphere was earth-like, but that the people so polluted it that it changed. But maybe that wouldn't/couldn't happen...
