my wife and I went a couple of years ago.

ok, it's very touristy, and depending on when you go can be very busy. it's definitely investing in the lonely planet guide book as it has all the info on the hidden treasures/lil tucked away places.

the trevi fountain is a must, but go at night, much prettier, plus if you do go and stand facing it, upto your right there's an ice-cream shop, you have to go there too!

we found the place a bit dirty, but alot of european cities are like that unfortunately.

if you plan to goto the vatican city, make sure you go early, it get's very busy and you can be stood in the blazing sun for many hours before you get in

when are you going?

Staying in Rome is not cheap, normally I stay around Roma Termini (the central station) it's a good not expensive/centric/well communicated ratio.

If not you can always go around Piazza del Poppolo or Via Gran Corso but those will be on the expensive side.

Ah and if you're into shoes there's a show shop called "Renato" just in front of Roma Termini, they have some amazing shoes :)

All the rest is quite tourist-y and well documented.

I think that is where we'll be staying too, seems to be the best price and not too bad.
Im so looking forward to the shoes! lol, will definatly check that place out - thanks!

If you like dead bodies, you will appreciate the Capuchin monastery on Via Veneto. Check it out here:
