Collection of updates and random things.
1) I just HAD TO catch a cold on the last day of my unemployment agency course, didn't I? Just when I had planned to really fire out those job applications in superhero speed and perfection now that I have more time. -.-' The worst thing is that my senses of smell and taste are completely gone. I think I might have accidentally amputated my tongue with those jalapenos yesterday, the sensors in my brain just haven't caught up with the pain yet.
2) Speaking of the unemployment agency course, though... I meant to tell you about the probably 'most valuable' lesson learned there - and that on the last day: Blogging is the most dangerous activity EVER. You'll completely lose touch with your family. You will end up addicted to your blog, forgetting to eat and drink and starving yourself to death. No kidding, they said so, it must be the truth. So, uhm... any of you guys dead yet?
3) You know what really depresses me? When you do a google picture search for the term 'blackberry', you actually get this:
Believe it or not, you have to add in the word 'fruit' in order to get this:
4) Are any of you guys watching the new series "Teen Wolf"? If not, hnn, check it out, I wouldn't mind having someone to talk to about it. It's actually better and much darker than the Michael J. Fox movie. Although it's kinda pretty obvious that the girl (what's her name?) will end up being revealed as the alpha wolf who bit Scott. At least that's what I'm expecting. And speaking of Scott, how can that guy's face be so unbelievably a-symmetrical??? makes me wanna get out my play-doh set and fix it. O.o
5) I started watching NCIS, now that we're on summer hiatus. Turns out it's actually a really cool show. One of the few where I really do like every single character. Huh. The only thing that keeps me cracking up is their constant use of the word "seaman". I know it's the correct term and it makes more sense than anything else, but... c'mon. "We found the seaman in the bathrub"? ^^
6) Also, I meant to recommend this awesome new show "Breaking In" to you ever since I started watching, but it got cancelled way before I could. *sighs* (It aired on Fox, need I say more?) Anyway, I STILL think the seven episodes they produced are well worth watching. It's got hillarious dialogue and is über-geeky with the most awesome pop culture references (they got an episode where they go to comic con, ffs). Basically it's about a group of people who steal or hack for companies trying to test their security systems. The actors are Brett Harrison (the guy who played Sam on Reaper), Christian Slater, Michael Rosenbaum (apparently playing himself, at least personality-wise, lol) and some other people who I had never seen before but who are ALL really funny. So, 'Breaking In' - WATCH IT!!!
7) Now that I don't work at school anymore, I actually have time to freaking read. Haven't had that in almost ten years. And I'm basically back to approximately one book per week. That's presentable, right? Yeah, so, here are three selected recommendations:
- 'Der Fisch' by Ulrich Magin - It's kind of an Eco-Sci-Fi thriller about a lake monster in Lake Constance, scientists trying to find out the truth about it, the disbelieving press making fun of it, and the government trying to keep it all covered up in order to not endanger the tourism industry. It's a nice read if you know the lake and I liked the ending.
- 'The Thin Woman' by Dorothy Cannell - That's a British novel from the 80s. It was recommended to me, otherwise I would have never read it, because I don't usually read crime novels. But this one was a real good read. It was thrilling and incredibly witty. Plus, I read it in German and have to say they translated it very well - all the little British language mannerism were somehow transported into the translation without losing any of their appeal. It's about a woman who hires a man to play her fiancé at a family reunion. An uncle dies and the two of them inherit his house and money, as long as they meet certain requirements in the course of 6 months: she has to lose weight, he has to write a book, and they have to find a treasure.
- 'The Mortal Instruments' series by Cassandra Clare, starting with 'City of Bones' - Basically if you liked 'The Demon's Lexicon' you'll also like those books, because they're equally witty and deal with a similar topic: a bunch of demonhunting teens trying to figure out their past. This one is set in New York. I've started with part 2 (City of Ashes) but am only about 100 pages in, don't know much yet.
Yeah, how about that? Good update?
