character meme

Pretty sure everyone on my flist has seen this one doing the rounds already. I was tagged by the lovely smoothiegarten and I'm making my own contribution! Nine facts about two of my characters. Here we go!

Edward Ashdown
1) He was born January 11th 1616. The deep midwinter seems to suit him.

2) Well, I'm pretty sure everyone already knows this, but his biological father is not James Ashdown, it's a reclusive harpsichord player called Percival Ingram who died when Edward was quite young and whom he never met. Edward doesn't know this, by the way. His mother had a feeling that it would not go down well. Anyway, Percival Ingram was a super-genius and Edward seems to have inherited some of that. Oh, and his lack of people skills, though that was more likely due to environmental factors.

3) He really doesn't like the fact that he is remembered through history as "the Hangman". Not only does it sound uncouth, in his opinion, but he's quite certain that he wasn't that bad.

4) My goodness, he is a hoarder. He hates throwing things away. Fortunately he has a house stuffed with servants to keep everything neat and tidy-- and Edward hates mess anyway.

5) The thirty-year-old Edward you see in Timeless is much, much mellower than the way he was as a teenager. When Isaac first started working for him, he used to actually wonder if he was human. Edward used to be a lot more cold-hearted and does improve, though he never quite grows out of... well, being an arse. By the end of Timeless, of course, the whole "becoming a better person" schtick has been implemented.

6) Pia Rees is probably the best friend he ever has. Aside from Isaac, I suppose, but he never admits that he sees Isaac as anything more than a servant.

7) He is a hopeless perfectionist to the point of being neurotic.

8) Of course he enjoys his constant battles with Jacob Graham. Their little "it's a man thing" war can get utterly out of hand but the two of them have spent so long trying to destroy each other that if it actually happened, they'd probably be at a bit of a loss. Nonetheless, I don't doubt both of them would take the chance if given it.

9) He had a brief crush on Isaac when he was eighteen. A short and embarrassing period of time I have not written any of yet. Oh, and Edward's personal valet-- Collin, who is totally ganked from Squelch-- has had a massive and obvious crush on Edward for years and years. He's so cute! And totally based on that skinny dude from Pocahontas who followed Governor Ratcliffe around all of the time. He was my favourite character in that film, and possibly any Disney film.

Robyn Walshe
1) She's a big, strong gal and on occasion kicks a lot of arse, but Robyn's not inclined to be violent or even aggressive by nature. Only when she needs to be, which is quite a lot considering her job.

2) Her middle name is Iphigenia. You have no idea how long I've been trying to work that one in.

3) Her parents are very wealthy, well-to-do types... not that she sees a lot of them any more. They never approved of her enlisting in the army at seventeen.

4) I've been a little loose with this, but her exact height is something around 6'1 or 6'2. Let's call it 6'1 and a half. Robyn grew tall at a fairly young age and that was always seen as a little odd, but Robyn loves being tall and has always been very sporty. She also packs a lot of muscle. What can I say? She takes care of herself. The brawn/brain combination of her and Victor is probably the reason they worked so well together as private investigators.

5) Speaking of Victor, the few occasions Robyn has willingly beaten the crap out of someone outside of her job is when someone's started kicking Victor around for being a Blackledge. One time some man gave Victor two black eyes-- that did not end well. For the man.

6) Robyn loves her hair. A lot. Probably more than she cares to admit. It's probably something to do with it being the only traditionally feminine thing about her, physically, and she's still a little drawn to that. Besides, it's long and gold and pretty. She was gutted when Scarlet burned a lot of it off.

7) She was born 30th September 2959.

8) As a teenager she was very big on horse-riding. This being the dystopia-like future of Timeless, only the very wealthy can afford to ride, keep and train horses, but she had that advantage. She loves the creatures, from the doe-eyed and docile ones to the crazy livewires. When she first joined the army she got a lot of stick for having been eating privilege on toast for breakfast for most of her life, but there's very little of that now.

9) Robyn and the poisonous Adele Merritt are actually friends-- insofar as one can be friends with Adele. There's a lot of sniping but Robyn has thick skin and really, Adele probably yearns for some female company occasionally. Sometimes Robyn wonders whether she is Adele's only female friend-- it seems pretty likely.

I think all of the writers I know have already been tagged-- this meme has been circling-- but if anyone hasn't and wants to snag the meme, go for it!
