Finally managed to contact all the extended family in Japan. Far as we can tell, everyone's OK. It's been such a crazy morning. Lots of (all of?) the phonelines are down and there were quite a few missing aunts, uncles and cousins for a while, but email has proven to be a great service for the places with power. Seems my clan are doing alright,

Thanks. :) It's crazy in my house, the phone never stops ringing... it's driving me insane, haha. But so far so good and getting better from what I hear.

We were worried about my aunt but she works at a boarding school and stayed there all night with the kids that couldn't get home due to the total shutdown of public transport. She finally got back to us last night-- such a relief.

I'm glad your family's okay. I've only seen bits of footage, and heard about stuff, but it looks terrible.
