Character Name: Ran Yakumo
Character Series: Touhou Project
Character Age: Unknown, but between 800 and 900 years old
Background: Wiki link
Personality: Ran is, first and foremost, dedicated wholeheartedly to Yukari Yakumo. Ran is Yukari's shikigami, which means that she must obey Yukari. If she asks Ran to jump, Ran asks how high and then jumps that high, no questions asked. This dynamic works both ways. Many of the extremely important jobs that Yukari used to handle herself she has since delegated to Ran. Since such tasks include helping maintain the Hakurei Barrier, it's not a task that Yukari would give out lightly. It implies that above all, Ran is extraordinarily dedicated and reliable. when tasked with a job, she'll see it through no matter what.

As for her own shikigami, Chen, Ran is something of a mother figure to her. Chen, for the most part, is rather young and inexperienced, so she can't be trusted with the majority of the chores. However she's still highly possessive of Chen, going so far as to try to make others pay for winning a fight against her, claiming that she was going to get revenge on the protagonists for defeating the cat. She refers to Chen being her precious thing, and it's hard to imagine an extent she wouldn't go to get her revenge for a perceived harm to her beloved Chen.

If there's one thing that Ran loves above all else, it's aburaage, a Japanese dish made of deep fried tofu. It's said to be the only thing that can stem her wrath. If offered a dish, she'll be willing to overlook almost any fault. In combat though, Ran is nothing short of a ferocious beast. She's used to being sent in by Yukari to fight attack a foe head on, and when your opponent's attacks generally look like this? It takes a good deal of self confidence and courage to go into the fray against something like that, and those are two qualities Ran is not lacking in.

She has a rather mild personality, and she won't go out looking for a fight. She's unlikely to attack anyone unless she has a very good reason. However, she doesn't take kindly to those disrupting her work. Ran is rather traditional, and she isn't one to try out something new if she has an established way of doing something. She's an amazing mathematician, which plays a lot into how she does things. She's methodological, and she seems to have a step-by-step process for everything.
Abilities: Ran is a kitsune, and a rather powerful one at that. Her natural form is that of a nine tailed yellow fox. However, as a kitsune she can change her appearance and often takes a humanoid form with nine yellow tails. The reason why she can change her appearance is due to her ability to manipulate illusions. Kitsune are also Youkai, and have all the attributes that they have. Youkai are extremely durable, being able to heal from what would be lethal wounds to humans. On the other hand, they're more susceptible to faith based attacks. Youkai also generally eat human flesh, but it's unknown if Ran has actually eaten humans before. Ran can also fly.

As stated in her personality section, Ran is an extremely intelligent mathematician. At one point, she calculated the width of a river that was in constant fluctuation all in her hands.

Ran is also skilled in danmaku, literally curtain fire. Danmaku are non-lethal projectiles, most often arranged in beautiful patterns. The more powerful danmaku attacks are called spell cards. It's worth noting that the spell card system was put into place in order to prevent death, and it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to assume that Ran could make her danmaku attacks lethal if she wished.
