I'm sorry I haven't been posting or commenting much recently. I've been too fed up, but I do read my flist daily, and I do know how everyone's doing: we're all abiding, as
manoah says.
At New Year, I started writing a 'review' of 2020, basing it on the photos I'd taken, but I gave up because it was so boring. Anyone want to see the new slippers I got on

I did something similar the other day. I thought, "Why have they changed this bloody website?!" not realising it was different because I wasn't logged in.

The nuisance calls from 'microsoft' had gone quiet for months, but have returned in the past couple of weeks - I guess the pandemic must be easing wherever they are - next time I might ask them!
I do hope your young gas engineer can return with the part soon - and keep his distance. And that your brother stays safe.
It is good to hear from you, though. Stay cuddled up in your poncho - you haven't got anything you can use as an emergency hot water bottle to keep your feet warm, have you?

During the first Lockdown, the nuisance calls disappeared altogether, which surprised me, because you'd think they could automate it, or do it from home. You should ask! (Have you ever seen James Veitch's Ted talks? He replies to spammers and drives them crazy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiLS7U7YIdc)
I hope it's the young man, because he was good and seemed to know what he was doing.
I never thought of using an emergency water bottle! Hmmm...

I know! My boiler runs all year round because it heats the water, so why not in July?!!

And I got robocalled ("Amazon" rather than "microsoft") twice today, for the first time this year. Bless them, they must be back to normal. As I was in videocalls 9.30-5 and then 7-8, it was most unwelcome... even more than usual.

I've had that Amazon call a few times recently. A phone is like a tunnel into your home you have to defend. I wonder if they'll ever work out a way to do nuisance videocalls? I've had nuisance Skype calls...

Like you, I'm not posting much. Or at all. Not since last March. I'd say I don't know why, but I do. It's because the pandemic has made me shrink into myself and only want to talk to family. I also feel that if I did post, it would just be a lot of ranting, and I don't want to do that.
Sigh! I hope I get over it soon.
So sorry about your boiler troubles. I do hope you've got a date for them to come and fix it now. Having no heating/hot water is bad enough in summer (happened to us in 2019, went on for months), but in winter...:shudder:
A small aside, over the last few weeks I've had a sudden LotR kick, and have re-watched all six movies. The Hobbit ones have not improved with time but I really enjoyed them all the same.

Months! That must have been terrible! Luckily, mine's fixed now (after 10 days), and at the moment I'm enjoying being too hot :-) I think having no hot water's the worst thing, because you can't wash yourself properly, and washing up involves boiling so many damned kettles.
I know exactly what you mean about not wanting to rant. Everybody's in the same boat, and some have it worse, but that doesn't -- whatever people pretend -- make your own situation any less miserable. It just adds a layer of guilt to your misery!
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed re-watching LOTR. For me, the Hobbit films were another excursion into Middle-earth and I loved seeing all of the details, especially in Legolas's scenes, though I wish they hadn't digitally softened his face. He's still a very good looking man. They should just have cast an older Thranduil.

Well, I got pretty tired of cold showers, but at least it was the summer. Very glad your boiler's fixed now.

Yes, in a nutshell. I spend a lot of time feeling bad for feeling bad. ;(
Re: The Hobbit films, I think the worst thing for me about them now is when one or other character - mainly the dwarves- says something 'modern' like 'I got this' or whatever. It throws me out of the story every time.
However, after my re-watch, I am quite looking forward to this Amazon LotR series, if just to see what they've done with it.
