Since I knew nothing about this, I decided to look it up. Straight from the horses mouth (aka ontarios website)

The HST will not be charged on the following items that are currently not subject to the PST:

Basic groceries
Prescription drugs
Certain medical devices
Child care
Residential rents

I thought the second part of the list was for sure going to be part of the increased tax.

But I have to have some property work done this year and if I want until june 30 then i'll have to pay more. So...home owners will definitely be paying more for things like maintenance. Renters not so much.

Yes, that is true, but first time homeowners will be getting a $24000 rebate!
