does anyone know what the deal is with the government charging income tax on ebay sales? i live in providence and recently heard that i'm going to be charged for selling items...yay. anyways, i just wanted to see if any of you guys knew anything about rhode island's new laws ( Read more... )

how the hell can the feds tell whether or not you're making money on ebay anyway? unless ebay provides them with information about members' sales, which seems pretty sketchy to me.

that's what i heard they're doing, so i just wanted to see if anyone knew anything about it. i heard that ebay is going to provide them with all the info so sellers will pay income tax on their sales. but, i was wondering about how you account for reselling something or selling something you've made, etc...

yup, they'll tax you if they catch you. unless u're making a ton of money off this stuff, they'll probably let it slide. hard for them to track random sales.
