Also it'd be interesting to track stories that just "disappear", as some do. For instance, that whole Baby P story actually began around Nov 2007, and the full names and details of everybody involved was available in the many stories about the original case. Then the mother squeezed out another kid while in jail and they had to grant them anonymity, so all the big news corps removed the stories from their sites (although you could still find them in google cache and archive.com, as I did :)
Actually, going on a stage from that, maybe they should introduce a 'learning' interface, which tracks the stories you tend to search for, and the ones you always ignore, and starts to tailor what it presents to you accordingly.
