This was beautiful. Tone-perfect.
I can totally see Castle writing a short story like that for her :).

Also, as a side note? More Team Castle? Please? I'm hooked now and want to know what happens.

Thanks!! I wasn't sure about the hug and kiss at the end, but glad you thought the tone was right. :-)

I do need to continue Team Castle. I know how it'll end-I'm thinking it'll take two, maybe three more chapters-but am still considering what I want to do with the intermediate stuff. Hoping to get something tonight or next week before I leave on vacation.

I need to write something cheerful, or at least continue my series, but Beckett keeps smacking me upside the head with these oneshots!

Awww. I like the memories in this, and the writer-craft, and the different strengths of both characters coming through. =)

Thanks, Jedi, I'm glad you liked it. Interesting that you mention their strengths; I hadn't even noticed that! I hope their vulnerabilities came through as well, especially Castle's. There's nothing like showing your work to someone whose opinion you highly value and watch them read it right in front of you...it's something we haven't really seen on the show, and I wanted to write that.

Well, yes, their vulnerabilities too; but I tend to 'notice' those less when done well, because so much fic in the greater fandomworld tends to focus solely on vulnerabilities. They felt very well rounded here, though-- shoring each other up, kind of? They play off each other so well on the show, and they feel very like themselves in your fic.

That's a good point. A lot of the fics I've come across are nothing but people standing around angsting weakly at each other, and you wonder what happened to the strong characters you fell in love with. :-P I just tried to write them as true as I could, so I guess their natural strengths came through.

Those two balance each other so well. I love exploring that dynamic.
