Writing again (?)

Mar 04, 2011 23:50

Wow, I haven't written in months and months. Mostly that's due to RL stuff ... I work, then I come home and do some freelance editing and/or go to ninja class and/or try to maintain a social life and/or go to church and/or stare at the wall and try not to think.

Anyway. My writing group has assigned me a thing to write. I was nervous at first-I ( Read more... )

Trying to live up to your screen name? :)

It's nice to have a stalker. (Now there's something you don't hear every day!)

Actually that is the second time I have heard that today! Not even lying. I guess this means I win at life!

Oh yay, and welcome back to LJ! I'm glad to hear I've not been the only one not writing anything lately - I just can't seem to fic anymore. :( Can't find the inspiration, I guess.

And yes, The King's Speech! It was a super interesting story, and so well done...Colin Firth did an amazing job. Didn't watch the Oscars, but from what I've heard, I didn't really miss much. Especially since there was no NPH this year. :(

Ah, The Hunger Games. I read that series a few months back because my friend told me that omgIhadto. It was...okay. I agree with your complaints about Katniss--I feel like her development is always kind of unfinished. She'll get halfway to an idea and then just...wimp out or something, I don't even know. But that did bug me. I thought the book could have been so much better if it was just a teeny bit less action-based and a bit more literary ( ... )

Haha, no worries. I will leave an essay on your LJ, how's about! ...It'll probably end up being three lines and a lot of white space. I feel you on that "Words are HARD" thing. I'm too undisciplined to write regardless of inspiration. Unless I have someone kicking me in the pants.

Oh good, the Katniss thing is not just me being old and inexperienced with YA. I read adult sci-fi and fantasy when I was a teenager, and connected more with C.J. Cherry, Ursula LeGuin, etc. In another writer's hands, Katniss might have more internal development ... like, she doesn't sit around and think about things and grow as a person that way. But then again that's probably right for her personality and age. Idk.

Well, if that's all it takes to get you writing...! *kicks in pants* Write more, you! XP

Yeah, it's hard to say with Katniss. I feel like she has a few moments where she is so close to having some internal development happen, but then Collins decided it...didn't work? I guess I can see how Katniss is quite driven by action, but she definitely has the capacity to think, and I really wish we'd seen that side of her fleshed out more. Because I think it was there. But...I guess she's not my character.
Anyway. This is why I don't read much teen lit anymore.

My ass hurts for some reason and now my fingers are tingling. :-D

As frustrated as I get with Katniss, sometimes I'm more upset at Peeta. I want to yell, "Go find someone who actually deserves you!!" I should probably go find spoilers for the ending since I doubt I'll finish it.

I should also skulk into the library and pay my fines so I can read more books. Oops.
