Anyway, I digress - I also loved these particular bits:
The look in his eyes means more than what he's saying. Annie is learning this about Jeff Winger: that his words mean less when they cut so deeply. In the wake of their passing, sometimes she is able to reach the man underneath.
I REALLY love this part, especially because I feel like it's so true. Jeff just Winger-speeches his way out of a lot of things, and I think it takes a person like Annie to know when he's just giving a spiel, and when he's truly sincere.

In dearygirl's summer fic, she described Jeff like this too, and it's just perfect because that is EXACTLY what a sincere Joel-smile looks ( ... )
