Five Facts About James T. Kirk

Apr 14, 2010 19:50

So nix_this had a meme-type thing on her journal which basically involved writing down five things from your personal head-canon for Nu!Kirk. I was intrigued, and found myself unable to resist stealing it and trying my own hand--someone please stop me before I do one for Spock, or Holmes and Watson ( Read more... )

God, every last one of these made me wibble. *wibbles* <--See? And I think that you're right, you definitely should not do more of these. *innocent whistle*

I think I might do one for Holmes or Watson, because I'm stuck on what I'm actually supposed to be doing.

DOOOOO IIIIIIIT. It's fun, actually, though I may have veered from 'five pieces of head-canon' into 'five moments in the life'. It's harder than you might think to write 'mommy Kirk was an awesome engineer who sort of fucked up and wasn't there for her sons, but she really did love them, so Jim likes the smell of Engineering' and have it make sense.

Holmesian insights would be very relevant to my interests, I'm just sayin'.

*glances at journal*

*whistles innocently*

BTW, the one you mentioned? Probably my favorite one. *wibbles some more*

Ha. That one actually spawned quite a few notions that I wasn't expecting about the relationship between Jim and his mother. They do love each other fiercely but there's a lot of pain and distance there born of the fact that she spent most of his childhood running away from her own grief, neatly personified in her youngest son. That particular day on the Saugeen is one of the very few times in Kirk's memory that his mother spent that long in his company and giving him her exclusive attention without getting that sad look in her eyes.

In fact, it's still one of his most treasured memories, behind only the day they gave him the Enterprise, and the day Spock first kissed him.

Oh my! They're all so wonderful. And kind of achy, tender, sweet... I love Bones' kindness in in number one, and the vigil. O.O Imma gonna go wibble some more. *points vaguely in the distance* I just need a minute.

...

...

Moar? Plz?

*chekoveyes*

You even worked in the Engineering love ~! And so vividly too. (SCI-FIVE)

*resumes pleading look*

...I get carried away sometimes. I didn't mean these to come out quite so angsty--or involved--but judging by the wibbles they did anyway. Oops?

And in my head Bones is totally straight, and Jim knows that. He'd just never had anyone who cared so much and was always there and never left him behind. (Besides, Jim is not blind. I WOULD GET RIDICULOUS FEELINGS TOO IF URBAN!BONES EVEN LOOKED AT ME SIDEWAYS.)

Ok, I cannot even begin to explain how awesome that was. Like seriously :) I especially liked the tribbles one because yeah, I could totally see why kirk would be scared of those. I mean, as far as I can tell, they have no eyes!

(you must do more of these! PLZ?) [now i kind of want to do some 5-head-canon-meme age about Spock or something:) ]

Haha, I'm glad you mentioned the tribbles--it somehow worked out to be one of the only ones that wasn't sad somehow, which wasn't my original intention, and in my head the aftermath of the nightmare was a very funny moment which involved Spock checking to see if his captain was in serious distress and then intense acrobatics of the Eyebrows of Doom as Kirk falteringly tried to explain why his dream was so upsetting.

I'm a trekkie, hot damn yes i am and this reminded me (through my haze of Sherlock Holmes obsession) why exactly this is.

And yes, as a tribute to your own fabulous writing, i was inspired to do some of my own. This was like a anti-venom to my ficcery disease. Thank you.

To be fair, Sherlock Holmes is entirely worth obsessing over. Entirely.

And thank you so much for the kind words--I've only just started writing some small stuff very recently indeed, so I'm rather insecure and seeing authors I personally enjoy the heck out of say that my words are somewhat adequate is incredibly reassuring.

Now I'mma go look at your stuff, because I'm hoping it's about Watson. ^.^

You're a fabulous guesser.

...can you read minds?

*glares suspiciously*

Anyways, yes, this was certainly more than adequate. The brevity does you a lot of credit. What you allude to gives the imagery more power. The most important thing about writing is to show rather than just tell and this piece certainly showed quite a bit.

Mostly I just really wanted to see your take on Watson, and was hoping.

*loves all over you*

3) Jim has had a stuttering, awed crush on Number One ever since he met her in Pike's office in first year and completely failed to be suave. Pike never passes up an opportunity to mention it, the bastard.

So. much. WIN.

Jim foresees expending some effort in the future to never be in Uhura's presence at the same time as Number One. She would never even pretend to respect him again.
