I know what you mean!!! and it's so weird when we're around gradeschool people who call us by our 'old' names. Hahaha! Although it was a different case with me, I re-invented my name in high school, calling myself carol line when in grade school i have been used to people calling me carol lyn. :D of course you already know that, but it wasn't a problem for you because you have always called me carol. :D
