The serious lack of search functionality and inability to have old episodes on the podcast feed are the main issues. I had to manually browse to find our Black Lagoon episode yesterday through 20 pages of stupid calendar crap...
It's not because LJ isn't "cool"... LJ was never cool.
Well, maybe changing tagging would help. Wouldn't a simple top level tag like "NC (show number) (date) make it easier? I always try to find solutions around broken stuff, not lament that something is broken. :)
I'm using the K2 Wordpress theme. It seems okay. Basically, as far as I can tell, all Wordpress themes are incredibly annoying if you have any desire to have anything custom. K2 is pretty normal looking and can be controlled mostly by the menus, plus CSS for the colors. If you have questions, I'd be happy to help with that.
As for the Russians, I must admit that I don't get the problem. It isn't like the Russian government owns it. I mean, the current owners seem slightly incompetent, but I don't see how that is associated with them being Russian. On the other hand, I'm moving to Russia soon, so perhaps my glee at all the Russians on LJ has drowned out whatever it is that is bothering others.
Immediately after the buy-out, I had a lot of problems with LJ comment spam.
Also, as a paid user, I get offered a time extension every time there's an LJ outage, and I got offered a LOT of extensions over several years after the Russia thing.
In addition to that, five years ago a lot of Ninja Consultant listeners commenting on the show had LJ accounts. Nowadays, almost no one who bothers to comment has an LJ account.
A lot of my personal friends who were once heavy users of the site fled to dreamwidth or stopped posting.
But yeah, N. is totally anti-Russian. I am not pro-Russian.
Oh, I totally agree that LJ is now a ghost town, except for the Russian users mostly. I have a permanent account, so I haven't seen a lot of the outage stuff.
I should say that I'm less than impressed by some of the politics coming out of Russia at the moment. However, I just completely adore my Russian friends and the language. I honestly don't know what that makes me. I guess since most Russians don't seem very thrilled with their government either, I'm pro-Russians.
BTW, are you going to be hosting your account on the Wordpress site? I wasn't very thrilled with that. Also, you might to see if you can get hosting that gets you access to the Wordpress configuration file for your feed/site, as that way it is much easier to change your feed and have it automatically update on iTunes.
Quick question guys ～ after approx 4 years of hiatus ... will the Ninja Consultants Podcast ever see a resurge? It's cool, y'all can do a once a year or bi-annual "hey dudes we're still alive!" 10-minute summary of whatever's going on in the animesphere etc. Just wondering haha ^^; ☆
Lol! Well I (Erin) went to grad school and then had a baby, effectively eating up podcasting and anime time for about 4 years.... I have always meant to do a special 100th episode that we never got around to as well.
Recently we've been able to watch a couple animus, and even have thoughts about them, while our mixer is gathering dust!
There are, in fact, some other ways to stalk us via social media if you want to know what Erin is up to. But not Noah, he's a social media refuser:
