Damn, I have a spare wireless network card lying around, but it's a PCMCIA card for a laptop. :P I might have a cord that long though, I'd have to check.

i am worried for the state of your junk drawer(s) if you MAY have a 50 foot long cable hanging out in there. :)

it's actually a couple large Rubbermaid totes in the garage, it was too much for a drawer. :) I even have an old 100mhz laptop out there that I play old DOS games on, Oregon Trail FTW.

Yea, there's USB wireless network adapters out there. Shouldn't be hard to find one. Make sure it used the G type (80.11G or something like that).

You're right, what you're looking for is a USB wireless adapter. I have an old one, but I think it's only 802.11b, which is much slower than 802.11g (11Mbit vs. 54Mbit).

I have to say, this is awesome. I just picked up a copy of High Tech Trash, but you're actually DOING it.

If you want the adapter, or to borrow the book, let me know.

i'll keep updating as to how difficult it gets. it's sort of relaxing in a way, instead of thinking of the stuff i want and can't afford, i just think oh- can't buy stuff. no worries. :)

i would love love love the adapter, can you ship it when you get time? and thank you for the book offer, but i seriously doubt that i will have more than 5 minutes of leisure reading time until about the end of may. :)

Alright, once I find it in the office I can ship it out. Probably Monday or Tuesday
