OK so I'm not too good at the fic thing, but following in CW's greatness, I'm leaving this little bit of fic and shall attempt to fill in the rest of the mission when I return from holidays. Oh and hopefully you don't mind that I borrowed Adam Mist.
Lieutenant Colonel Sheppard surveyed the team now assembled in the Puddle Jumper bay. They weren’t his usual Alpha team, as the members of this team were currently occupied in other places in and around Atlantis. McKay was busy with Zelenka fixing a major power outage in C section, Teyla was visiting friends and relatives on the main land and Ronan……..well he was off doing whatever Ronan did in his spare time. Apparently Sheppard himself was all too easy to find though. Dr Weir had come straight to him with the news that a recent mission had unearthed information concerning a planet of friendly people with strong trading traditions. Unfortunately, the people they gleaned this information from claimed that the stargate of this world was no longer responding and so they had lost contact with them. They, however, didn’t have something that the Atlantis team had; Puddle Jumpers. With the stargate address as a guide, a team from Atlantis could travel through the nearest gate to the planet and then travel the rest of the way by Puddle Jumper. It would be approximately a 15 hour trip from the nearest gate to the trading planet and the people standing in front of Sheppard, were the people he would be sharing that 15 hours with.
Lieutenant Kaylee Mara and Sergeant Joshua Bashir, a scientist and field medic respectively, had just returned from their latest exploration of the city of Atlantis. The pair had become inseparable friends and they were almost always together during their free time. They had quickly agreed to join the expedition team. Flight Lieutenant Adam Donnavan had also been quick to offer his services, which just left one more person necessary to the team. They needed an Atlantian technology specialist in case the planet’s gate could be fixed. Unfortunately the only person Dr Weir could find was Dr Kavanagh and she’d practically had to bully him into joining the mission. The man now stood with the others in the Puddle Jumper Bay, obviously anything but happy and doing absolutely nothing to hide this fact. He was in fact alternately scowling and pouting and generally refusing to make any eye contact, which was probably just as well, as the others weren’t thrilled to be stuck with him either.
“OK lets move on out then people.” Sheppard strode off toward his usual Puddle Jumper, but was stopped by Adam’s voice, sounding both enthusiastic and almost urgent. “Ah Colonel. I packed our stuff into Puddle Jumper 5. This one. Come on.” The man proceeded to lead them to another Puddle Jumper. Sheppard shrugged and followed along. At least he was enthusiastic. Shortly after the Jumper took off through the Stargate, emerging from a Stargate floating in orbit around a moon in the same system as the planet they were traveling to.
“So. How should we amuse ourselves for the next 15 hours?” Asked Adam.
**************
“A Pizza Hut. A Pizza Hut.
Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut
McDonalds, McDonalds
Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut”
Kaylee covered her ears and groaned loudly. In the last 3 hours, Josh and Adam had managed to sing 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall at least 5 times, each time substituting a different Atlantian object for beer; empty ZPMs, gigabytes of Atlantian data and Fuzzle Whimpets just to name a few. They’d then moved onto just about every other travel song they could think of, including The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round sung with Puddle Jumper substitutions. Of course, none of them knew much about Puddle Jumpers, so it came out something like:
"The thingy on the Jumper goes Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh
The thingy on the Jumper goes Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh
All the live long day."
……and now they were singing The Fast Food Song. Kaylee was about ready to kill someone soon. The Puddle Jumper had responded to Lieutenant Colonel Sheppard’s distress hours ago by shutting the forward bulkhead, thus separating himself from the incessant singing and shutting the rest of them in the back compartment and Kavanagh had fallen asleep a few minutes into the journey. His apparent ability to sleep absolutely anywhere truly amazed Kaylee. Finally deciding she’d had far too much singing for one trip, Kaylee spoke up.
“Would you please stop singing? Please. I’m going out of my mind.”
Honestly Kaylee had no idea how she would possibly survive the next 12 hours in the same Puddle Jumper with these two positively happy men. Surprisingly, Adam and Josh stopped their singing immediately, but while Josh looked slightly hurt, Adam looked around conspiratorially. A large grin spread across his face and he rubbed his hands together in glee, like a small boy about to reveal a big secret.
“You want something else to do?” He asked. “Well ask and I shall provide.” He waved his hands like a magician about to do a magic trick, before touching the Puddle Jumper wall and making an expression to show that he was thinking hard about something. Then, out of the Puddle Jumper roof, right in front of the forward bulkhead that Sheppard was still hiding behind, came a TV monitor.
Josh and Kaylee stared open-mouthed. “Don’t tell me that comes standard?” asked Kaylee. “Surely I would’ve activated it by now.” Kaylee had a nasty habit of accidentally activating all sorts of extra features whenever she flew a Puddle Jumper.
Adam was positively glowing now, as he revealed a remote control that he had pushed from behind his back. If it weren’t for the fact that he was sitting, he would have been bouncing about the cabin with glee. “I had Belinda install it.” He stated. “We are under instruction to bring back something pretty, like a silky scarf or a nice handbag and any makeup we can trade for as payment for monitor installation…..and look.” Adam held up three discs. “Starwars IV, V and VI!! The original and the best!”
Kaylee wasn’t a huge fan of Starwars, but it was a classic and it was a lot better than Josh and Adam’s singing. Plus that was a whole 10 hours, or something, of entertainment. At that moment, Kaylee was simply so happy with Adam, that she reached over and gave him a hug. “Thanks Adam!” Something else fell into place for Kaylee then. She suddenly understood his insistence on taking Puddle Jumper 5.
“What do you think we’d have to bring Belinda back in order to bribe her into doing up the entertainment systems on the rest of the Puddle Jumpers?” she asked. A large grin had spread over her face.
With Kavanagh and Sheppard completely oblivious to the movie-viewing going on in the Jumper, the rest of the trip passed in a blur of light sabers, Jedi Knights and Ewoks for Kaylee, Josh and Adam.
To be continued……..
