Oct 11, 2011 17:41

Which includes a "what I'm gonna try" list, plus first impressions for things that have already aired.

1) The Watch List
C^3
Fate/Zero
Guilty Crown
Gundam AGE
Hunter x Hunter
Kimi to Boku
Kyoukaisen-jou no Horizon
(Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam)
Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai
Mirai Nikki
Persona 4: The Animation
Phi Brain
Sekaiichi Hatuskoi 2
(Shakugan no Shana III)
Un-Go

There are two paragraphed series up there.  Last Exile, because while it aired it hasn't been subbed (as far as I can tell), so I don't know if I'll actually be able to watch it; and SnS3, because I kiiiiind of need to watch S2 first.  :D

2) First Impressions, Part 1

Sunday
Gundam AGE: I have never watched a Gundam series all the way through before; the most I remember was when SEED was on Toonami.  But I'm giving AGE a try...and I'm skeptical.  The MC is so ~*perfect*~, which annoys me a bit.  And I couldn't help but laugh at the whole "Gundam as savior" thing.  IDK, maybe I'm just not cut-out as a mecha fan.

Hunter x Hunter: OH GOD IT'S BACK~  But two episodes in and no Killua yet.  ;_;  Though I think they'll get to him next episode, based on what I can remember about the series.  I feel like the remake has a more "Saturday Morning Cartoon" feel to it probably because it's a Sunday Morning Cartoon, but based on the AWESOME ED (OH GOD THIS BAND IS MY NEW FAVORITE) I don't think they'll tamper with it too much.

Mirai Nikki: This is a series I had heard about for a long time, but never got to reading despite the fact that it was already finished.  I think I might be glad of that, because apparently the ending was FAIL compared to the series as a whole, and I'm glad I didn't know enough about it to know just how CRAZY the yandere was.  This'll be fun, I think...

Phi Brain: OH GOD PUZZLES.  It's like Yu-Gi-Oh!'s seriousness for card games meets Professor Layton's enthusiasm for random puzzles.  And the OP is one of my favorites this season, to be sure.  It's such an endearingly narmy show.

Monday
Kimi to Boku: I really want cute guys doing cute things, but these episodes have been a little boring so far.  ...and...er.  Well, I wouldn't be totally lying if I said that all of the boys having female love interests didn't bother me, but I can already see some adorable dynamics with the boys.  Still, though...I wonder if I'll be able to keep up with it.  It's a VERY chill show--almost to its detriment.

Thursday and suddently, it's the end of the week
Persona 4: The Animation: Kind of a slow start, but then you get to the last 10 or so minutes and you understand why everyone calls the MC the "Brotagonist."  GJDKLFHKALH SO. COOL.  I also love the art style, and the music is SO NICE.  Especially the ED (no video...it was removed); I need a full-length version of that song yesterday.

Friday
Sekaiichi Hatuskoi 2: I FORGOT HOW FUNNY THIS SHOW WAS.  Oh God, the industry inside-jokes are amazing, as is the show poking fun at its cliches.  The standard abuse-romance...thing...that is a practical trademark of this author (and maybe even this genre) is still a bit annoying, and I was glad to see that there was some headway (the whole "senpai..." thing was SO CUTE)--but of course he was drunk and he doesn't remember anything because RULE OF DRAMA.

Saturday
C^3: If I had reviewed this after one episode, I probably would have put it on the same list I put Blood-C on last season.  But then I watched the second episode and bait and switch oh wow.  Of course, it could still go the Blood-C route...but I have some hopes (that, and Kaji Yuuki is the MC.)

Fate/Zero: I've only finished the first route, and then played through a bit of the second, of Fate/Stay Night.  Nevertheless, I thought I'd watch this...and was spoiled HARD in the first 10 minutes.  Jesus Christ on a stick, that was crazy.  The first episode was really talky...but having played a couple Type Moon games already, I'd say it's par for the course.

Kyoukaisen-jou no Horizon: Apparetly people keep "spelling" this wrong--ie, the spaces.  Whatever.  Anyway, the first episode was BOOBS.  EVERYWHERE.  But then the MC came in and was all FABULOUS and I couldn't stop laughing.  The backstory looks incredibly complicated, so it'll certinaly take some concentration to make heads or tails of the story, but I'll enjoy it.  My understanding of the episode count is that it's split cour--multiple 12/13-episode seasons.

I think I've just got the noitaminA block left, now that I think about it...Un-Go might be cool, but I'm REALLY looking forward to Guilty Crown.  That art!  That music!  That Kaji Yuuki!

On a completely different note, I took the past few days to look for some older BL(-ish) series and watch them.  This included Sensitive Pornograph, Sotsugyou M, and Ai no Kusabi.  SP was...well, what I expected.  Nothing special, really.  AnK...well, I knew it was a pretty popular work in the genre (and I know it's getting a remake 13-episode OVA starting in January), so I figured I should watch it.  SO SAD HOMG.  But I can see where the "abuse-turns-romance" thing came from...looks like it's not a new thing, eh?

Sotsugyou M surprised me because I could have SWORN I had heard of it before, and then I remembered that Sugisaki illustrated the original manga.  <3  Why do I know this? I don't know why I know this.  I can't find it anywhere, though...the OVA was amusing, so I'd really like to read it.  BUT OH GOD.  Two of the characters probably have a fandom somewhere, because the...well, the more "uke"-like one refers to the other as "his" more than once, and is constantly hanging onto him.  But I couldn't stop laughing because the two characters had traits that reminded me of Daisuke and Dark...especially the latter, what with the purple hair with the red streak in it HAHA.  But then that got me to thinking how utterly adorable it would be if Dark and Daisuke ever were able to interract in front of everyone else, and if Dark went into one of his over-protective moments (which are few and far inbetween but all HNNG worthy)...and then I got sad.

...I check her blog/twitter too often.  Ascribe 2 is now on sale, and as far as I'm aware there still isn't a translation group for it.  I wonder how popular it is in Japan...?  I also noticed that she changed the header on her blog to Sakis.  <3

...OKAY THEN.  Done rambling.S
