Hmmmm Ok. I kind of get what you are saying. I'll pick up some charcoal asap, I'm afraid it won't stick to my sketchbook well though. I have problems with the pencil smudging all the time.
well you can smudge with the pencil if you work at it...
when you go get the charcoal get a pad of newsprint, its really cheap, like ten bucks, and its a big huge pad. That will suite you with the charcoal.
For blending you can also buy blending stumps. They look like rolled up pieces of paper. Kinda point on the top. Don't get tortillos though...they look similar but the gradation of their points is not smooth, its staggered.
I meant rather that I often smudged the pencil accidentally, like while I was shading something else, so something that was "perfect" would get smudged out by my hand accidentally rubbing over it. I'm sure it's a problem with my technique.
o...well you should try smudging...its a good way to learn blending...and it is a legit way to draw most def...
the hand thing can be rectified by drawing on a esiel or putting a piece of paper inbetween your hand and the paper you're drawing on and just move it as you move from different parts of the piece...
