Summary: Two very different boys meet and they change each other's lives.
Humans are nothing but weak beings. They immediately believe everything they see or hear without a single doubt. Never have they thought their senses were playing tricks on them and they drift farther away from the truth without even a tiny realization.
Nino was never one to simply trust another. Being quiet and small by nature, Nino was frequently the victim to bully during his school days. Bullies are no different than others, they avoid the truth and let go their frustrations on people weaker than them, Nino thinks. Nino never does fight back - even though he was by no means weak - because he knows that it’s only a matter of time that they stop and then label him as ‘boring’. And when they do, Nino’s already learnt that ‘trust’ is a stupid word.
His family members couldn’t be trusted either. Because if his parents had kept their vow on the day they became each other’s lives, his father would have obeyed to ‘Till death do us part’ and not just disappear from Nino’s sight, never to be seen or heard again.
Nino knows that he could never put his trust in any being but what he doesn’t know is that he’ll meet a certain Aiba Masaki in the near future.
Nino was 13 when his mother bribed him with 5,000 yen to enter the agency. Being blinded by the money, Nino auditioned and - much to his surprise - passed. Nino looked around him and couldn’t help thinking how weak the other boys looked. They were nervous and filled with insecurities, afraid of what might await them.
Being young and without a tiny bit of thought for the future, Nino should be similar to them but he isn’t. Nino was not afraid of what awaits him, or to be more precise, he doesn’t give a damn about what happens in the future. All Nino is aware of is the fact that he would now be in a sea of unknown people from now on and he doesn’t plan to even trust any one of them.
Nino went with the flow and somehow manages to survive in the agency. Then one day, he receives news that he was chosen for a stageplay. Nino accepts the offer.
Walking into the studio, Nino notices the nervous looks on everyone’s faces and inwardly laughs at their anxiety. Nino notices a boy he recognizes from the train he rides home. There was something about this boy that makes him stand out among the rest.
It’s definitely not his height even though he was slighter taller than the others. Nino observes the look on the boy’s face. It wasn’t anxiety nor was it nervousness, that glint in his eyes and that grin plastered on his face… excitement?
“Ah!!” a unique voice breaks Nino’s thoughts and he realizes it belongs to the boy. “I saw you in the train yesterday!”
The boy walks towards Nino and offers his hand. Nino half-heartedly shakes it.
“I’m Aiba Masaki. It’s nice to know you’re a Junior too!” Aiba exclaims.
“Ninomiya…” Nino mumbles and frowns a little at Aiba’s energy. He was never good with this kind of guys.
They’re just plain annoying.
“Aren’t you excited?!” Aiba says.
No, I’m not a tiny bit excited at all. Now can you please leave me alone?! Nino just silently shakes his head.
“You’re not?!” Aiba’s loud voice pierces through Nino ears and Nino winces a little. “Ahh.. But I guess Nino’s used to it, huh…”
How long is this annoying boy going to- “What did you just call me?”
“Nino… It’s okay, right?”
Great, now I get a nickname. “I don’t really care…” Nino mumbles, hoping Aiba would just go away.
“I’m so excited for this!!” Aiba jumps and continues and Nino feels something inside him snap.
“You…” Nino coldly states. “You’re an idiot.”
Aiba stops jumping and raises his voice, “Oi!!!!”
Nino smirks thinking that no matter how different this boy is compared to the others, he was still weak to Nino’s sharp tongue like everybody is. He was glad for his ‘weapon’ he had developed after everything he’d been through in his childhood. The smug look on Nino’s face immediately dies when Aiba lets out a laugh.
I just called him an idiot and he’s laughing?!
“I get called that pretty often…” Aiba grinned and scratches his head. “I wonder if I really am one… Nino! It’s nice to meet you!”
Nino was still dumbfounded by Aiba’s pure personality that he doesn’t realize the words he never did once say to any other co-stars flow out of his mouth. “I look forward to be working with you…”

Nino still thinks that nobody in this world is worthy of his trust, even Aiba despite being inseparable for three years. They ride the same train home every single day and even get pushed into the same temporary group.
Aiba’s energy was like a never-ending road and Nino’s unconsciously travelling down that lane always leaving a tiny fragment of his trust behind. Nino doesn’t realize it but ever since his and Aiba’s paths crossed, Nino’s always been smiling, laughing and slowly but gradually becoming friendlier. Because Aiba was pure and has the innocence of a child, Nino gets sucked in by the bright light Aiba’s emitting.
Nino was 16 when Johnny tells him he would be debuting with a group named ‘Arashi’. He isn’t even a tiny bit happy when he receives the news and immediately thinks of quitting. Nino hated the thought of always having to fake a smile for the camera and he shivers at the thought of having to meet even more unknown people.
Nino wasn’t an idol; he wasn’t born to be one.
Three days before his debut, Nino still hasn’t found a chance to quit. He’s glad he hadn’t when a sudden change of members happens and ‘Aiba Masaki’ appears on the list. Nino can’t help feeling a gush of relief wash over his pessimism when he sees this.
Maybe, just maybe, he can do it with his idiot around.

Nino hears the cheers of 70, 000 fans for Arashi and he wonders what would have happened if he’d quit 10 years ago. ‘Arashi’ was the best thing that happened in his 26 years of life.
This was something all five of them earned, something they deserved. It had taken 10 years to reach where they are now and their journey was definitely not a smooth road. It was filled with tears and pain and anxiety but Nino knows that he never once had to fake a smile for the camera when his band mates were around.
They link hands and entwine their fingers together, a tight bond that all of them know will last forever even after the storm they created ceases. Nino sees the sheer bliss on the faces of the others as they bow and thinks, “If it weren’t for these band mates, Arashi wouldn’t be Arashi.”
They’re thankful for everything that happened and if they had a chance to relive their life, it would definitely be this path they’d choose. This was the Arashi they created with their bare hands, this was the storm that brought the rainbows in their lives and they never want it to end.

It’s 2 in the morning when a knock on Nino’s door echoes through the living room. Nino knows that there can only be one person in the world who would choose this kind of hour to pay him a visit but he decides to ask anyway, “Who is it?”
“It’s me…” comes a tiny voice that couldn’t be recognized as Aiba’s unless you’ve known him for half your life.
Nino immediately jumps off his sofa and opens the door. Aiba’s grining like an idiot (which he is) and Nino’s starting to think that the voice he heard just now was probably a sign of fatigue.
Nino slams the door shut.
“Oi!! Nino! Open up!” Aiba yells from outside.
Nino sighs as he opens the door again. “Seriously, if you don’t know how to read a clock, at least look at the sky and realize that it’s midnight. With you yelling like that, my neighbours wo-“ Nino abruptly stops when he sees Aiba’s eyes.
That tiny voice wasn’t Nino’s imagination. Aiba had been crying.
Without another word, Aiba grabs hold of Nino’s wrist and drags him out of his house. Nino doesn’t argue, he just follows. Aiba brings them to a bicycle and he gestures for Nino to sit in the back. Aiba then pedals straight ahead.
Nino smiles as he wraps his arms around Aiba’s waist to keep balance and also because he saw Aiba’s tears. Aiba doesn’t say a word.
So he hasn’t forgotten, Nino thinks.
It was just a childish promise and Nino thought he was being stupid hoping that maybe, Aiba would remember. It was after their very first concert with ‘Arashi’ and Aiba brings Nino for a ride in his bicycle.
“Let’s make a promise,” Nino had said. “If Arashi survives through 10 years, we’ll do this again after our first concert of that year.”
Aiba’s only response was a nod so Nino hadn’t thought he took it seriously.
There’s a really refreshing breeze blowing and Aiba starts to whistle a tune. They don’t have a destination; they’d just stop when Aiba’s legs give in.
“Honestly,” Nino says after what he thinks was a few minutes. “When I thought only Riida would cry this year, you show up at my doorstep with tears in your eyes.”
“I couldn’t help it! If I cried at the concert, you guys would probably call me a crybaby again and you would definitely tease me in your speech!”
“I can’t help it if you’re really a crybaby.”
“Oi!”
The silence is comforting as Nino listens to Aiba whistle their debut song - the start of everything. Nino’s afraid to imagine what he would be doing now if he hadn’t met this idiot. Aiba changed Nino’s life.
“Hey, Nino… Why didn’t you put one of the sentences I mailed you in ‘5x10’?”
“Ahh.. the ‘Arashi is a miracle’ line?”
“Yeah… I seriously thought that was an amazingly good line.”
Aiba’s has always been saying how Arashi was a miracle ever since 10 years ago. Nobody admits it, but they feel the same way too and they’re glad that Aiba says it. Aiba doesn’t know it, but that line acts as a reminder to each and every one of them to always be thankful for ‘Arashi’.
‘Arashi is a miracle’ was something that only Aiba can say.
“You say it so many times that it became so annoying.” Aiba laughs when he sees the grin plastered on Nino’s face as he says that. He knows Nino’s lying but Aiba doesn’t dig for the truth from Nino. Nino would tell him when the time comes like always.
“Arashi is a miracle!” Aiba says.
This time, Nino doesn’t smack his head or call him to shut up, instead he tightens his grip around Aiba’s waist and rests his head on Aiba’s shoulder from behind while mumbling a silent, “It really is…”
Aiba doesn’t reply when he sees a single tear roll across Nino’s cheek.
