I have no ideal why people think you might be a girl. Maybe you are being called a M'am by people who are blind. Maybe it's your shoulders. Maybe its your dress. Maybe there are just way to many butch girls in Richmond. Hell I don't know. But long hair on a man can be terribly fuckable, so I say keep it.
