Wii buzzing problem

My Wii has been making loud buzzing noises as of late. At first I thought it was because I brought it to Korea and am using a 220v power cord on an American system, but after doing some investigating I found that this was a common problem for launch and near launch Wiis.

Here is an example of my Wii:

Nintendo said they'll fix it for $75, but I ( Read more... )

This happened to me as well, it's a problem with the motor on the drive. There's a way to fix it if you can tinker with things.

Follow the instructions in this video and do your best to isolate the part of the triangle metal that is making it buzz. You have to bend it in the opposite direction, but at the same time, be careful not to make the other side bend and buzz on its own.

This does work and will completely get rid of the noise so I encourage you to try it instead of sending it in for that much money. It takes patience and effort, but anything worth doing is like that!

To be honest, the video doesn't do a very good job of showing just how to bend the metal contraptions. I'm a little nervous about that. I mean, how do I know how much to bend it?

Is it safe to play Wii games in that state, or should I take care of it ASAP? I'd like to, but I don't have any screwdrivers around here.

The video is pretty general, yes; you need to open it up and be gentle with it yourself to be sure. I was very careful not to mess up anything in the process, but it can be done, for sure ( ... )

OK. Thanks a lot for the help! I think I'll leave it right now and wait till I get back to the States to fix it. I'd feel more comfortable trying to fix it in my own home terf where I can talk to people who speak the language or, worst come to worst, mail my Wii into Nintendo in case I mess it up or something.
