Hah! We did just about the same thing, too. What did you do? Our incident was that Mike had problems connecting one of the hoses to the washing machine. He thought he had it. I tried to do a load of laundry. The hose disconnected during the first cycle. Water everywhere! Luckily, the washer is in the basement conveniently near the sump pump.
The water softener from the previous owner was rented. So we had that taken away and we bought one to put in. It would've been extremely simple had the fitting from the old softener fit the softener we bought. But they didn't. I turn the water off, remove the plastic adapter for the old water softener by breaking these clips that were used to hold it in place. I pull the adapter off the piping and get SOAKED with water as it comes spraying out. That was caused because we didn't open a faucet to remove the back pressure in the lines. That was bad but seeing the water spill forth from the inlet pipe was worse.
I pointed to the pipe, I looked at Angela and I said, "Why is that happening? I TURNED THE WATER OFF!" I used a towel and cranked on the valve some more, got it to move a fraction of an inch and the water slowed but did not stop. I thought I could just put the new plastic adapter for our water softener on and be good to go but it didn't fit. I tried placing the old plastic piece back on but it would blow off with the
