The Doctor was in a terrible mood. Normally, that meant he would just go off and brood until he decided to stop feeling so sorry for himself. But he'd offered to see Romana, and she welcomed such company. He was more than thrilled at the thought of seeing her again, even if the reason they were meeting was due to poor emotional stability and bad ( Read more... )

Once Romana had given The Doctor the coordinates, she busied herself with the delicate business of getting her own self there. Based on the amount of power and current state of repair, she was quite certain that she could successfully make a short hop to one of the Earth-colony planets nearby...and once the synchronization error was corrected, she could send her TARDIS back to its place in The Doctor's control room using a reverse-trajectory sequence that would have her rematerialize almost simultaneously with her initial departure. His instruments would show she'd left, of course, but since she'd be returning just at the same time, it wasn't like she was running out on him or anything.

In any case, Romana frowned as the dematerialization engines whined a bit more than usual -- there were still so many adjustments to make! But as her TARDIS touched down and shifted smoothly into what appeared like a nondescript kiosk with a 'Closed' sign in its window, Romana belatedly realized that this was the first successful trip her TARDIS had ( ... )

((Gah, I've been an awful, awful person when it comes to responding with Nine here. He's prolly grateful I gave him a day off. *shifty eyes* Sorry 'bout the wait.))

"Fred!" Oh, for old times' sake. He grinned like a maniac. Nothing like seeing an old friend face to face at long last. "You're looking younger all the time."

He nodded in approval at the TARDIS image, giving the door a solid rap. "I'd almost forgotten what that was like. I get too attached to my daft old police box. Bit hard to believe that if anything works on that TARDIS of yours, it'd be the chameleon circuit. Let's take a look at the damage."

Romana stepped out and moved forward to give The Doctor a firm hug. "So are you -- and I like the monochromatic look you have going right now." She tugged approvingly at one of the black leather lapels on his jacket ( ... )

All snark and wit and banter aside, the Doctor was relieved to see her so very alive and so very real. And they had not changed so much that they felt like complete strangers (as can happen when one's looks and personality and mental condition fluxuate after regeneration). In fact, he felt like he was finally getting back in step with a part of his life that had been suddenly put on hold, waiting for this one moment. No missed beats, no awkward moments--just two old friends.

He boggled at the mess she'd made of her console room. "No wonder! You've got about half of everything pulled out! You probably shouldn't have bothered trying, could've just had a little meet-up with you and my future self and...whoever else he's got onboard now. Surprised nothing caught on fire." He took a whiff of the air. "Nope, something definately caught on fire. Or melted. Might have to get some new parts. Or replace some. Could you imagine, your TARDIS looking like my daft old thing? Got bits of bicycles, hovercars, toys, whatever junk I find ( ... )

Romana relayed her time & space coordinates to The Doctor (choosing to materialize at a point after the deconstruction of the Galatron Mining Corporation's monopoly on the Zeiton-7 ore output), and took a deep breath. "All right -- here goes nothing."

She threw the dematerialization switch, and the TARDIS shuddered, emitting a harsh grinding noise. Instinctively, Romana smacked her fist down on the control panel...and the shuddering stopped, and her TARDIS vanished from Deneb 6 as smooth as silk. Romana raised her eyebrows in amazement. "That actually worked -- and here I always thought The Doctor just did that for show!"

She could feel the strain of rematerializing on Varos, although that was wholly due to the near-empty levels of the mineral that she intended to restock her TARDIS with on that planet. "But once that's finished, then I daresay I'll be at a functioning level again! Of course there's always the lesser functions that need to be cleaned up and resynchronized, but that can be done at leisure ( ... )

OOC: 's fine. XD Being various levels of busy/distracted here as well.

"Ah, Varos--haven't popped by this way since, oh, my sixth self, give or take a few decades." He was all grins and energy finding Romana safe and sound and not blown to bits.

"It worked! Knew it would work; I had no doubts whatsoever. You might want to keep a hammer handy by the console, just in case. But still, that's fantastic. C'mon," he prompted, instinctively reaching for her hand (he must've gotten that habit from dragging Rose everywhere), "let's go nick us some of that Zeiton-7, then!"

Romana closed her hand firmly in The Doctor's (ah, the memories of dashing across the streets of Paris!) and headed down the corridor with him. "Let's hope that they're no longer randomly putting visitors into that Maze of Death anymore, or whatever that awful entertainment video they used to export was!"
