We're reading a short story by him in my class this week. It's kinda weird.

The story's weird, or it's weird that he died?

WORD! I saw that on the CNN ticker yesterday and actually let out an audible "WHUT?!" at work. No one noticed or cared as to who he was.

I have A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again on my shelf and enjoy it now and then. I have Consider the Lobster but haven't cracked it open yet.

Most of the time I think he's a little /too/ brilliant. Prose is definitely less than accessible to your run of the mill paperback reader. Often, I'm afraid of liking him simply because it makes me feel like an esoteric literary fanboy/poseur: "Oh, Yeah - DFW... totally. I read him when I'm taking a break from Nabokov and Pynchon *harrumph*"

Or that could just be me.

He's definitely a heavy-cream of lit, something I sip on occasion, but nothing I'd sick back and chug in rapid frat-boy succession.
