Under the pseudonym A. N. Roquelaure, vampire writer Anne Rice published a series of BDSM books known as The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy. The 2nd book in the series, Beauty's Punishment, includes vignettes featuring cart-pulling human ponies.

Ms. Rice's books are partially responsible for the explosion in popularity of ponyplay in the last decade.
