Pre-Revel
On Friday night people came over to my place and hung out and played music. I tuned the harpsichord in the morning, so I was prepared for some 415 playing time. As soon as Heregyth saw it she started playing. I asked Robyyan to bring his 415 recorder, so he started playing that not long after Heregyth got started. Amelie tuned her Gamba,
aelkiss his fiddle. Kasha and I played some drums.
It was cool, but... exclusionary. 415 instruments aren’t exactly widely available or inexpensive. :’( Ultimately we could not jam all night with the harpsichord, so we got out some recorder music. There was some mixed ensemble reading. It was a good time. :D
Maybe in the fall I’ll have a smaller get-together with people who have instruments that can play in 415. Hell, maybe I’ll take the harpsichord to Chicago. It does fit in the car...
The harpsichord did not go to the event for obvious reasons. It will only go if it is a featured instrument.
Evening Activities
After the concert I rested by gate for a while, and then remembered that I was supposed to go do solo singing with Kasha. (Oh my goodness, best idea ever was for me to not lead one of the evening activities. It was nice to be effectively done after the concert. I think that was part of why I flubbed giving pitches at the concert last year. Also good was having
aelkiss give pitches this year.) So I went over there having heard that she was lying on the floor, resting.
A few people drifted in over the hour or two we had the space. I sang the translation of Quen Quer Que. We sung through a bunch of other stuff. Margrett wandered by later and I told to come sing her solo stuff. Improvising on the cantigas was easier this time. It turned out to be a lot of fun and relaxing.
The madrigal sing session was heavily attended. Unsurprised Jadzia is unsurprised. They seemed to take care of themselves. :D I heard sight reading in the basement was fun too. Robyyan brought out Byrd’s puzzle canon. I am sad I did not get to try it. Impromptu dancing in the parking lot happened too. Oddly with canned music. All the musicians were off playing with each other for once. :P
After the evening activities I soon headed out to prepare for the post rev.
aelkiss took care of clean up in my place. I felt somewhat uncomfortable having to trust that everything would get cleaned up satisfactorily. AFAIK it was. Yay husband!
Post Revel
Post Revel was much fun. There was talk about the event. One group hung out in the Dining Room. Another in the living room. Eventually we tried playing some music. Got into reading contra tunes. Then Meg asked to do some sight singing, so we read off of the packet from the madrigal sight-singing session. This all happened at about 2:30 AM. The madrigals brought some people from the dining room into the living room. We ended up singing until 4AM. OMG good times.
I could have stayed up all night. I was wired. Sleep was uneasy, but came. I think I got up around nine. Stayed in bed until about 10. Then went over to
charles_midair and
elaine_alina (I just realized your lj names have the same format, btw.) for brunch.
Brunch
Lox and bagels were so tasty. There wasn’t any music at the brunch, although there was dancing outside. Again, the musicians stayed inside. There was chatting. There was musing about how next year should go. Lots of compliments on a well run event. :) Hee!
I didn’t play games, and apparently neither did a lot of other people.
charles_midair ended up going to fight practice because no one would play games. What a first. It didn’t help that most of us that were there at the end of Brunch had been up until 4 the “night” before. Good times.
Post Brunch
We hung out with
ermenrich and Kasha and Gyuri. Went to see Star Trek Into Darkness. (It was not terrible.) Went to dinner afterward. More talking about next year. More talking about SCA in general. By the end I realized that we were all tired and talking too much, if that makes sense. It was like when I start working on a project, I’m passed the point of diminishing returns and yet I can’t stop working on it. That was like what our chatting was at the end. Still it was fun to hang out with them. :D And seeing a movie was a good plan.
I think the last movie I saw at the theater was Les Mis.
