1. Rarely have I felt a sense of history happening around me quite like watching the debate tonight. This will be quite a story to tell my kids, I think. I hope it has a happy ending. 25 was darkish, but not more or less dark than the preceeding or following years. You grow older and usually a tad wiser, but that doesn't mean you follow said wisdoms. It's just that now you know you're being foolish while you play, vs. the 20/20 vision that used to accompany everything in retrospect. Sometimes foolishness is called for, though.

And amen to vacations needing a vacation to catch up. Yes, yes, yes. I am beginning to understand why the laid-backness of cruises are so appealing to middle-aged audiences, but I have yet to see the appeal of being trapped on a ship (no matter how many time-wasting amusements they set before you). That said: I've decided to schedule one "sleep-deprivation" day after every vacation, whether I have the time or not.
