After some uncomfortable staring, it was quickly decided Faith would stay in Kennedy’s room for the time being, while Buffy and Intel would try to find out what had happened eight months before. Spike didn’t push his way into the conversation, feeling he might be intruding when his former lover could very possibly want nothing to do with him. One last kiss was all he’d had, but even that was more than he’d dreamed of just a few hours ago.

Faith seemed completely overwhelmed by everything going on around her and she kept focusing on Buffy and Kennedy in the hopes of finding some feeling of friendship to go on. Kennedy obliged her and stayed close. Buffy veered away every chance she got. The brunette found herself looking for that other link, but the bleach-haired vampire had found a way to sneak out of the room in the after-kiss chaos. The power behind said kiss had Faith blushing every few seconds, the grin that was plastered on her face remarkably permanent. She decided to go look for Spike the second the girls would let her. Or whenever she could get out without being missed. Had she always had just these two options, she wondered. Had she had more freedom, or perhaps cared less? Thinking about what Kennedy had told her about herself, the latter seemed the most appropriate. Was she really the woman the Senior Slayerette had told her about? It was so far away from whom she felt she was inside. Maybe Spike would be the best person to talk to. He knew her better than any of them, after all. Well, supposedly.

It took some time for Faith to get away and even longer to get her bearings in the large Facility, but eventually she found her way to Spike’s lair in the south wing basement. He was cleaning up after what looked like one hell of a party. “This place looks like you should be having a serious hangover,” she remarked. Spike looked up, startled. The bottle he held almost fell to the floor, but his reflexes made sure it landed in the garbage bag instead. “Yeah, erm… It’s a bit of an accumulation of a few parties, see,” he answered. “Need a hand?” Faith grabbed the broom hidden behind the door and dug in. Spike couldn’t bring himself to make her leave yet, so he accepted her help instead. They worked in silence, Spike not sure what to say and Faith not sure how to ask what she needed to know.

“Were we…” Gods, this was the hardest question she ever had to ask. Well, as far as she remembered. “Were we serious?” His grimace told her she should have phrased things differently. “I mean… I know we had to be serious, I… I think. I just…” She sighed, holding her hands up in surrender. “I need to know if what I think I know about you is real or not.” Spike dropped the last of the bottles into the bag and walked up to her, his movements stirring something deep within her. “Luv, what we had was nothing I’d ever felt before.” Honesty burned in his crystal-blue eyes as he searched hers. “You took every memory of every woman I ever loved and turned it to dust.” He smirked. “And that includes a certain blonde we both love to hate.” Faith blinked, processing the information. “You slept with Buffy?”

“Well, yeah, you were well aware of that before we ever got together, luv. I dare say you had your own fun with her before.” Faith’s eyes grew wide before she coughed once and burst out laughing. “Oh my, that explains so much!”

The silence was more comfortable after that and she enjoyed just being around him for a while. Despite the whole horrible nightmare thing, somehow his company just made sense. But Faith had one more question to ask. “The girls have decided to take me to my old apartment in Boston,” she started casually. “They think that it might trigger some things to be surrounded by my stuff again. Buffy even volunteered to take me.” Spike stopped making the bed as no further explanation followed. He looked up and found her looking at him curiously. “That sounds like a good plan, luv. When would you be heading out?”

“The general consensus is on tomorrow. There aren’t any major missions planned for the chopper, so they figured we could fly out there and check things out.” Again she seemed hesitant to continue. “I was just wondering if… I mean, if it would be okay with you… And you wouldn’t have to-“ He was in front of her in just a few steps, grabbing her hands without a second thought. “What is it, luv?”
“Well, if you wanted to… Maybe you could come? Maybe it could just be the two of us?” Faith still wasn’t sure why she felt it would be better to have Spike by her side than Buffy, but somehow it just worked out better that way in her head. He knew her better, probably knew her habits and her triggers. She hoped. Spike’s eyes glowed with warmth and she felt herself blush. “Of course, luv. Of course. Like you even had to ask.”
