Not to argue with Professor Campbell, but I've lost at least 5 $1 umbrellas so, yes, it does happen.

You, to put it quite simply, are the anomaly. The 1% that the Matrix can't quite figure out why it happens, it just does and you just quite can't do anything about it. Just accept and move on. :P ;)
