Meditations upon Iran and upon the nature of revolutions

I've been trying to keep up, as best as I can regarding the rapidly unfolding events in Iran following their election. Everywhere I look, I see Americans, Westerners and Anglophones wishing the Iranian people a peaceful victory in their struggle with the oppressive regime of the Islamic Revolutionary government. We don't often agree on political issues but we're on the same wavelenghth here. I hope they have the guts to actually fight when the time comes because if not, things are gonna be 1000x worse afterward.

It won't be a question of guts or fortitude in a fight. They need comparable arms and equipment (however they can get them) to the people they are fighting. Right now, they are winning the war of intelligence (in the military sense), propaganda and information, but the ancien regime knows that it's back is to the wall. When it feels like it's "do or die" time, the guns will come out.

I think that, for the time being, they are using the same sorts of tactics which won "the Orange Revolution" in the Ukraine a few years ago.
