Pairing: Jongin/Junmyeon
Summary: Jongin tells Junmyeon to stop thinking.
Notes: Sort of beta-ed, not really. You should listen to Cough Syrup by Young the Giant.
Sometimes, Junmyeon wishes he can touch the sky. To touch the never ending stream of stars that nestle in the darkness. Sometimes, Junmyeon wishes he were invincible; untouchable. There are times when Junmyeon just wishes he was a little kid again with dreams to be superman.
But Junmyeon knows his wishes won’t come true by the end of the day when he sets down his tie on the cheap couch and sleepily walks into the kitchen to boil water in a kettle pot he found at a garage sale. Junmyeon knows his tiredness is not just a passing phase, and Junmyeon knows the roughness of his palms are not from adventuring the world but working at a factory that kills his lungs with smoke and washes out the gleam of hopefulness in his eyes.
Junmyeon is barely out of college and he never stops wishing-he wasn’t going to die disappointed.

Junmyeon believes it is no surprise when he’s laid off from his job. Junmyeon believes it’s not a surprise either when the landowner tells him that there’s a leak in his apartment and he’s forced to move out until the problem is fixed.
Three weeks max, the landlord tells him. Junmyeon knows it’ll take longer than that.
Junmyeon visits his mother during the weekends. He smiles at her when she pulls him in warm hug, mumbling ‘I miss you’ over and over again. He can no longer count the strands of white hair that settle in-between her black hair on the tips of his fingertips.
Home no longer smells like home and his younger sister peeks out from her room smiling; Junmyeon knows his baby sister is no longer a baby and she’ll be getting ready for college in a few weeks.
Junmyeon wants to tell his mother he wants to live in this house forever and never leave the bed. He wants to hide under the blankets with his younger sister and tell her ghost stories like he did when he was younger and watch his sister run off later than night and tattle tell on him.
He misses, but he doesn't say.
Junmyeon meets his step-father the following week. He has a soft heart and enjoys classical music more than Junmyeon ever did.
He is happy for his mother, and decides not to tell her that he had lost his job.

Junmyeon meets a boy name Jongin on his third week of endless job searching. Junmyeon learns the boy lives alone but his parents are just as rich as the family that used to live next to his house, The Byun’s. Jongin doesn’t need to worry about holding himself up alone. He has his parents money to fall back on.
Junmyeon also learns that Jongin enjoys talking a lot, whether it be about soccer or how annoying the 7 o’clock news is, Jongin enjoys talking and Junmyeon enjoys listening. Junmyeon learns Jongin wants to become a professional dancer but his parents want him to something more professional.
“They say I won’t be able to succeed in something useless as dancing.” Jongin says, hiding his lips behind the cup of coffee.
“Prove it to them that you can succeed,” Junmyeon replies, taking a sip of his coffee.Sometimes, Junmyeon wishes they could stay like this forever. Conversations short and quick, but enough to bring some kind of assurance that they’re still interested.
Junmyeon also learns that Jongin is awkward, fingers always fidgeting and Junmyeon finds it endearing.
Junmyeon tells Jongin of his wishes one day. They’re on couch of Jongin’s apartment and they’re both eating Chinese leftovers. Junmyeon tells Jongin of how he wants to work with little children, to live in a small apartment, drink coffee in the morning, and eat ramen at night. Junmyeon tells Jongin of his wishes to touch the stars, to travel around the world, and to become superman.
“I wish I was a child again. I wish I didn’t have to grow up so fast,” he whispers, but Jongin catches it and smiles.
“Then stop growing up so fast Junmyeon.” Just stop thinking.

Their first date is a picnic at the park. Jongin accidentally spills cold slaw and water all over his pants. They go back to Jongin’s apartment to clean up.
Their second date is at a coffee shop a few blocks away from Jongin’s college. Exams are coming and Jongin accidentally spills coffee all over his notebook and Junmyeon’s phone. They both walk back home and Jongin sulks (Junmyeon doesn’t mention how cute Jongin looks while pouting).
Their third date is at Jongin’s apartment. Jongin’s plan was to surprise Junmyeon with a home cooked meal. Jongin ends with a burnt hand and Junmyeon has to go to the pharmacy to buy him burnt ointment.
Their fourth date, it’s snowing, but Jongin holds Junmyeon’s hand, and they feel soft against his rough fingertips. Junmyeon catches the cold next day. (Jongin apologizes over and over again but and cooks him some noodle soup, with adult supervision of course).
Their fifth date is taken place on the balcony of Jongin’s apartment. They order pizza and drink carbonated beverages that Junmyeon complains “are too unhealthy!” Junmyeon tells Jongin that he still hasn’t found a job and that he’s been officially kicked out of his old apartment.
It’s their sixth date that Jongin kisses Junmyeon and it feels nice. Jongin’s lips feel nice.
Their seventh date is when Jongin asks Junmyeon to live with him.
The eighth date is when Junmyeon tells Jongin he loves him, more than anything, and everything. Even without a job, or a roof under their heads, Junmyeon will always love Jongin.
Their second kiss is chaste and it happens while Junmyeon is teaching Jongin how to cook without burning down the house.
Junmyeon still wishes, but he is happy.

The judges are impressed with his audition routine. He impresses his parents. Even Jongin’s friends are impressed and his parents are willing to consider his new profession. Now Jongin is a part of Junmyeon’s wishes and he isn’t afraid to steal kisses from Junmyeon’s lips from time to time and whisper three words in Junmyeon’s ear as they lay in the bed, limbs tangled together.
