Ffxi died so long ago it amazes me to know that people that I used to play with still actually play.

Dunno why but wow just doesn't get as old to me (at cap yes, but leveling alts in wow is a lot of fun to me for some reason). In ffxi once you hit cap all you could do was farm. Plus, constantly relying on other people sucked (even though I did have someone great to rely on, there was still a limit, lol).

Ffxi's combat system seems really mundane to me as well and its end game might as well be nonexistant in comparison to that of wow's.

Rant off ! Anyways hi :)

Hihi...

FFXI didn't die, its just for people who like that other way of playing a game. Why FFXI gets old and WoW does not is simple, WoW evolves, FFXI does not. Like I said, the only way I would go back to playing FFXI is if they raised the level cap and made the game "new" again. Being 82 BLM/RDM and not only converting but refreshing ... even if they nerfed it down to 1mp/tick it would be cool to see the dynamic of the game change after 5+ years. Plus new challenges that could be found in a higher dynamic. The game stagnates because the powers that be at SE are scared of destroying their cash cow. Well, the sad fact is that their cow is on its last leg and it doesn't give milk anymore. Sooner rather than later they are going to have to get a new cow cause all this one gives is dust.

The "stories" are the real thing that makes FFXI stand out. The cutscenes are real and for the most part well done from the first CS you get when you start your first character (yes, there are different cs's based on race and city you choose) to the latest TAU cs's. The continuing story that is so completely intertwined in your "mission" life is one of the two real differences that make FFXI stand out over World of Warcraft and its clones. WoW may have alot of "lore" and back story, and quests may show you sides of stories, but with the very singular exception of the Onyxia quest line, and even then only really on the Alliance side, it does not have a continuing storyline. They try to make you believe there is, but there isn't ( ... )

I recently (christmas) started playing... and honestly, I love the game. I know I could get years out of enjoyment out of the game, partially because I don't really grind levels all the time. I mess around and explore lots, and I take lots of time off. I imagine that if I had unlocked every job to 75 and explored all the different job combos and explored every area, and done everything, I would be sick of it... but I am not really ( ... )
