1. Graham has been sneezing for a week, so I took him into the vet today. Upper respiratory infection. Given a shot of an antihistamine and an antibiotic. Given prescription meds: Chlorpheniramine (I think this is an antihistamine), and Amoxi Tabs (amoxicillan). I've got to give him one Amoxi Tab and half a Chlorophen twice per day. I gave him ( Read more... )

Your amoxicillin allergy shouldn't be a problem as long as it doesn't get into your blood. Note that I'm not a doctor. =)

I'm not sure about that. If it were me (and I have an "unpleasant reaction" to penicillin), i'd handle the pills with exam gloves (I suppose it helps that I have an endless supply of those in the house for other reasons - started because I'd wear them for dyeing my hair, and then handling various paints, and then getting them for my dad's caregivers).

I'm sorry Graham isn't feeling well. Did the vet show you how to hold Graham's mouth until he swallows the pill? I don't remember how, but I do remember that Lindsay taught me when I had to give pills to Socks. There are lots of funny stories on the internet - google "pill a cat"

How's your finger? I did that to my pinkie with a steak knife once - cut a nerve and it hurt when touched for months. Made playing the piano a little painful. Check the cut today. If it is getting red, indicating an infection, you will want to see a doctor. But that is unlikely because it bled so much all the impurities from the blade would have been washed out. The other reason for a doctor would be if the cut is in an area that flexes a lot (such as a joint) and won't stay closed without stitches because you keep moving it or if it involves a tendon. Neither of those is the case here. So, it'll probably be just fine.

Hug Graham for me.

I did that with the tape gun (for packing tape - one of them had very nasty sharp teeth and I gave myself several cuts during the course of the move). It didn't heal properly until I had a good long bath and the hand got all "pruney" from being in the water. Until then, it was really sensitive to pressure. After that, it just healed up.
