All of the boggles

I found a website called The Woman and the Dragon today. The byline?

finding freedom from feminism in faith and family

It's... ah... something.

Something special.

I suggest reading if you've ever wanted to experience the feeling of your brain trying to actively escape your body, but don't like taking drugs.

Check it out. [TW: slut shaming, ( Read more... )

Funny, and here I was thinking that feminism was one of those things no one ever needed to be freed from! How sadly I am misinformed!

I'm reminded of this exchange from 1970s Doctor Who (thanks, WikiQuote for copy-and-pastage):

Stevens: In the end, we all want the same thing: an ordered society, with everyone happy and well fed...
The Doctor: ...Global Chemicals taking all the profits.
Stevens: What's best for Global Chemicals is best for the world, is best for you.
The Doctor: Such as a little touch of brainwashing?
Stevens: Freedom from fear, freedom from pain...
The Doctor: ...freedom from freedom.

I don't think it will harm my quality of life any if I don't actually check out the site you link to and simply judge it on what you've quoted...

I had the same thought! But the brilliance of the metaphor revealed itself to me after some reflection.

See, feminism = dragons. And being a feminist woman means you have been captured by dragons. And then God, through the power of Traditional Marriage, is like a knight in shining armour that will rescue you from feminism. Because everyone knows that feminists and dragons HATE marriage! Unless it's gay! Because DRAGONS!!!!

Seriously, it takes some genius to pack so much stupid into one blog title.

It's especially funny since the traditional fairy tale narrative is dragons capturing virgins and this blog spends a lot of time calling feminists all variations of sluts.

*g* I don't think you're actually missing anything, no. But if you ever feel like you just haven't argued with enough stupid people on the internet, now you have a place to go!

I'm in just the right frame of mind that I can mock instead of rage. Even so, I ain't going anywhere near the 343 comments without some sort of alcoholic fortification.

Maybe if I wasn't already in a pissy mood due to LJ's latest stupidity... Ha, idk if alcohol could mellow me enough to even go that far.

Yeah, I might have to be insensate before I can even come close to wading into it without wanting to write off humanity as irredeemable. On the upside, if I'm that drunk the playing field will be leveled ;)

So I was feeling a bit brave, beautiful day and all that, and decided to give it a go. Made it to the third sentence, read this...

"...I fully understand that women are very dependent on men."

And got physically ill to the point of genuine nausea.

I then attempted, through my now scarred psyche, to read a little further. I don't know why, because I'm a masochist? To put myself off dinner (and perhaps tomorrow's breakfast) and help my diet along? Anyway, made it to the second paragraph, read this...

"...I have had the opportunity to read more personal anecdotes about decent Christian men whose wives divorced them due to congenital discontentedness, destroying their husbands’ and children’s lives in the process."

And I think I feel a headache coming along... got any more of that alcohol?

I think the drinking game that doesn't end in alcohol poisoning is one shot for every paragraph that doesn't make you want to vomit.

But yeah, I'm all stocked up and ready for you ;)

LOL, since no such paragraph exists (in that sorry excuse for an editorial) we'd all be WAY too sober afterwards. How about a shot for every paragraph that only induces homicidal rage but not the point of the body trembling with it?

Bring on the tequila!

... We'll do the pinot noir for desert. ;)

Oooh, I like your plan. I'm only mildly repulsed by this paragraph, so I won't vomit if I take a shot. Brilliant!

I don't agree with most of it, but she has some good points, if you can look through all the crap ( ... )

The root of the crap, IMO, is the idea of being "free" from "feminism" (which is a word I don't think the OP understands)

The courts do tend to "favour" women in custody situations because women tend to be the primary caregivers, even when both parents work. 2004 New America Foundation Report on Work and Family lays out some pretty good data that also goes into detail on to why this impacts women financially with regards to their employability, which *needs* to be considered when deciding child support. Is the system in place to address this issue perfect? Nope. But that's because society isn't perfect ( ... )

If the decisions she made involve being unwilling to settle and choosy about her partners, then she shouldn't be shamed for that. She shouldn't have to feel bad about being too picky, too promiscuous, too whatever. If she hasn't found the right partner and she wants children, she should be able to adopt or opt for a donor without having to continuously justify that decision to anybody else and be judged for not being able to 'get a man ( ... )

My sister doesn't feel ashamed AT ALL...seriously. I don't think she even knows what that means. And if anyone tried to judge her, she'd simply tell them to fuck off ( ... )
