Erik was far more dangerous than Shaw, Charles realized suddenly, his heart stuttering in his chest. He would take the authorities out one by one, systematically, like a game of chess.

And Erik almost always won when they played chess.

This is horribly beautiful. I loved this, no matter how teary eyed, ok, I cried a bit. Seriously. You are amazing. Not everyone likes stories without happy endings, but it's the bittersweet ones that touch those biggest emotions, anger, sadness, happiness, that are just, golden. I salute you

This is incredible and I'm glad you didn't go for a happy ending, because what they've been through is so DARK that this ending feels very fullfilling, in a way.
