We have Macs and love them. I would never buy anything else.
We've had our current "good" laptop (an iBook G4) for over three years. We have an old iBook G3 that we've had for seven years! It's a little slower and after we installed a new operating system, it doesn't have much memory. But it serves us well as for checkin email and the like.
I strongly recommend a Mac. We have Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop. It also came with iPhoto and iMovie, which are great for making albums and videos.
Uh, on that note: I believe business applications are more commonly found on a PC. Not to mention I also believe it is easier to update/upgrade PC's than a Mac. There are a few Mac specific editing programs (iPhoto, iMovice, etc), but the larger and more common editing programs are for both, usually. My friend who's an Illustration major has them for the PC, so I know they're there.
Then again, Macs and I have a person grudge against one another, so I just *may* be biased.
I had this discussion with a friend of mine who sells computer. Now, his family prefers Macs, but he knows I hurt people when they lie to me. He said he would NEVER give up his Mac to go back to a PC.
He said that Macs are better than PCs because they are linked to Apple and Apple sends automatic updates, keeping a computer you bought up to date with most things for a good.... seven years I think he said? Compare that to a PC which he said would be completely out of date in four years.
He's going to have me come in and play with one, just to make comparisons. I'll let you know?
remember where I took you for some photography lessons? My Cousin Joe had a dozen pc's in his digital photography lab with lots of ram in each..... Dad
